AbstractThe emission of prompt and delayed gamma rays from (n,γ) and (n,n´γ) reactions induced by irradiation of indium with epithermal and fast neutrons was investigated with the instrument FaNGaS operated at Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching. The average neutron energy of the neutron spectrum was 2.30 MeV. The measurement was done at an angle of 90° between neutron beam and detector. A total of 136 prompt gamma lines from which 42 are related to the capture of epithermal and fast neutrons and 94 to the inelastic scattering of fast neutrons were detected together with the delayed gamma lines of the activation products 113mIn, 114m2In, 115mIn, 116m2In and 116mIn. Intensities and neutron spectrum averaged isotopic partial cross section of the gamma lines are presented. Additionally the neutron spectrum averaged cross sections of the reactions, 113In(n,n´)113mIn, 113In(n,γ)114m2In, 115In(n,n´)15mIn, 115In(n, γ)116m2In and 115In(n, γ)116mIn were determined from the corresponding delayed gamma rays of the formed isotopes as 143 ± 22, 288 ± 13 194 ± 18, 201 ± 10 and 508 ± 24 mb respectively. The various results obtained were found consistent with the literature data. However, our measurement indicate the need to reevaluate the cross section of the 115In(n,γ)116m2In reaction for thermal neutrons.

The paper reports on the results of archaeological excavations in the town of Torzhok, Tver’ Region, carried out on the section between the New Torzhok Kremlin (the Lower and the Upper Hillforts) and the Monastery of St. Boris and Gleb founded in 1038. The excavation trench partially revealed a pre-Mongol town necropolis where graves demonstrate high variability in the position of the arms of the deceased. Partial cross-section of the fieldside ditch of the New Torzhok Fortress was performed for the first time.

AbstractThe new generation of energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) detectors with higher count rates than ever before, paves the way for a new approach to quantitative elemental analysis in the scanning transmission electron microscope. Here we demonstrate a method of calculating partial cross sections for use in quantifying EDX data, beneficial especially because of the simplicity of its implementation. Applying this approach to acid-leached PtCo catalyst nanoparticles leads to quantitative determination of the Pt surface enrichment.

Issues related to safety requirements for steel elements subjected to different stress resultants in reference to limit states design philosophy according to Structural Eurocodes PN-EN and national codes PN-B are dealt with in the paper. The calibration of partial cross-section resistance factors is discussed on the basis of elements of steel floor structures where the permanent load component and the live load component of variable actions are the only components of load combinations. Final conclusions for their practical application in the codification process are formulated and values of partial factors for cross section resistance are proposed.

The Brazilian civil construction industry is one of the largest consumers of wood in the country. The majority of wood is used as formwork to build concrete structures and is discarded at the end of the construction process. This study presents an innovative structural system that uses a type of partial cross-section precast system with thin reinforced concrete flat plates, which are transported and assembled at the construction site and act as permanent formwork with structural function. The major advantages of this system include the reduction of transport costs; easier assembly of the structural elements because of its low weight; and the possibility of idealizing and designing rigid connections between structural elements, improvement of the structural behavior and postive impact on the material economy. This paper presents construction details, tests results, and some real cases where partial cross-section beams and columns were successfully applied in Brazil.

The mixing of the quasifission component to the fissionlike cross section causes ambiguity in the quantitative estimation of the complete fusion cross section from the observed angular and mass distributions of the binary products. We show that the partial cross section of quasifission component of binary fragments covers the whole range of the angular momentum values leading to capture. The calculated angular momentum distributions for the compound nucleus and dinuclear system going to quasifission may overlap: competition between complete fusion and quasifission takes place at all values of initial orbital angular momentum. Quasifission components formed at large angular momentum of the dinuclear system can show isotropic angular distribution and their mass distribution can be in mass symmetric region similar to the characteristics of fusion-fission components. As result the unintentional inclusion of the quasifission contribution into the fusion-fission fragment yields can lead to overestimation of the probability of the compound nucleus formation.
