The aim of this article was the gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis oforganic matter from a residual liquor sample (S.C. Alum S.A., Tulcea), extracted by the solid-phasemicroextraction method (SPMA) and derivatized with N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-Nmethyltrifluoroacetamide(MTBSTFA) as the silylating agent. [...]

The lamellar precursor PREFER was applied to develop interlayer expanded zeolite IEZ-FER(D4h) with extra-large pores through hydrothermal acid treatment-assisted molecular alkoxysilylation using 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl cyclo tetrasiloxane (D4h) as a silylating agent...

In this present work, a superhydrophobic glass surface comprising zinc oxide nanotriangles (ZnO-nt) and nontoxic silylating agent was developed via a cost-effective spray-coating technology. ZnO-nt was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) and dimethyldiethoxysilane (DMDEOS) were used as nontoxic (nonfluoro) silylating agents. The morphology and crystallinity of ZnO-nt were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. ZnO-nt with polymeric silane (PDMS) exhibited maximum wettability as compared to nonpolymeric silane (DMDEOS). The water contact angle (WCA), sliding angle (SA), and surface roughness of ZnO-nt/PDMS-coated glass substrate under UV treatment were 165 ± 1°, 3 ± 1°, and 791 nm, respectively. The WCA of ZnO-nt/PDMS was higher (165°) than that of commercial ZnO/PDMS (ZnO-C/PDMS). ZnO-nt/PDMS was strongly attached to the glass substrate with good stability and adhesion. The reasons for improved hydrophobicity, adhesion, and mechanism of hierarchical microstructure formation on the glass substrate were explained in detail. PDMS was attached to the glass substrate via hydrogen bonds from solvated zinc acetate.

A general synthetic procedure was developed for H-α-hydroxyphosphinates via Abramov reaction. The present work is a complementary study to those reported till now. This methodology has the advantage that it can be applied to various aliphatic and (hetero)aromatic substrates. The H-α-hydroxyphosphinates were easily purified and obtained in good to excellent yields in shorter times. A 31P NMR spectroscopy study has shown that only 2 equivalents of a silylating agent were required.

Silyl enol ethers are extremely useful nucleophilic intermediates for chemical transformations because they are synthetically versatile substrates for a wide range of C–C bond-forming reactions. Here, we present a new, mild, and solvent-free procedure for the synthesis of silyl enol ethers that employs a catalytic amount of solid-supported base and an equimolar amount of N,O-(bistrimethylsilyl)acetamide as a silylating agent.

Alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) is widely used to hydrophobize paper and paper board in papermaking industry. Montmorillonite (MMT) particles modified by trifunctional silylating agent were used as particulate emulsifier to prepare binary mixed sizing agent. It was found that stable ASA\liquid paraffin Pickering emulsions can be prepared by using grafted-MMT particles and the optimal dosage of LP oil was 50 vol.%. The ASALP Pickering emulsions exhibited some kinds of a solidlike viscoelastic behavior, which can be explained by the particulate network formed by grafted-MMT particles in the emulsion. Addition of LP oil not only improved the stability of ASA emulsions stabilized by particulate emulsifier, but also significantly promoted the internal paper sizing performance of ASA.
