Today telemedicine, or eHealth, is an important tool in everyday medical life. In all areas, from the preclinical to aftercare, significant improvements in communication structures have been seen in various eHealth options, which have had significant, positive effects on the quality of patient care in orthopedics and trauma surgery. Initially, there were several isolated solutions and many small individual projects; however, there was a lack of interdisciplinary and comprehensive systems in all healthcare fields. The German Trauma Society (DGU) together with the AUC GmbH took the lead and paved the way for a modulated, comprehensive, interface-compatible teleradiology system. Nevertheless, there are still deficits across all sectors which, in the future, will need to be optimized by eHealth methods and systems. Overall, there is an effort towards patient-centered solutions (patient empowerment). In Germany, telemedicine has gradually gained acceptance in various sectors and is being used nationwide. Telemedicine has proven itself, especially in trauma networks.

<p>Radiograph interpretation which is conducted by dentomaxillofacial radiologist has a problem with distance, time and limited number of dental radiologist in Indonesia that it becomes an obstacles to provided expansive and be spread evently radiograph interpretation services. The objective of this review to provide information to general dentist and other dental specialist about teleradiology advantage in dentomaxillofacial radiology as comunication media between dental radiologist and other dental specialist using teleradiology system. Radiographs imaging can be easily sent from dental radiologist to other dental spesialist not only in the sections of the hospital but also other locations throughout the world. The teleradiology system need adequate internet capacity, internet speed and bandwith. Benefits of using teleradiology is able to achieve efectivity dentomaxillofacial radiology services. As conclusion, teleradiology can be used as communication media between dentomaxillofacial radiologist with other dental specialists, especially in providing services radiograph interpretation thus can provide patient services effectively and efficiently, without problem of human resources, time, distance and location.</p>

This study describes the design of a real-time interactive multimedia teleradiology system and assesses how the system is used by referring physicians in point-of-care situations and supports or hinders aspects of physician-radiologist interaction. We developed a real-time multimedia teleradiology management system that automates the transfer of images and radiologists’ reports and surveyed physicians to triangulate the findings and to verify the realism and results of the experiment. The web-based survey was delivered to 150 physicians from a range of specialties. The survey was completed by 72% of physicians. Data showed a correlation between rich interactivity, satisfaction, and effectiveness. The results of our experiments suggest that real-time multimedia teleradiology systems are valued by referring physicians and may have the potential for enhancing their practice and improving patient care and highlight the critical role of multimedia technologies to provide real-time multimode interactivity in current medical care.

Teleradiology, sending of x-rays, is the most common application of telemedicine in use today. Mobile telemedicine is the latest area of research where the patient can be monitored remotely by a doctor. In this paper, we propose a teleradiology system whereby the communication is established via cellular networks and cell phones. Since the data is sent over a wireless channel, it is more prone to data loss due to the mobile environment. To prevent data from getting lost due to noise in the wireless channel, an error-coding scheme is applied. Turbo code is a powerful error coding technique employed nowadays in communication systems. In this paper we apply turbo codes to an x-ray image and an ECG image and simulate the transmission system by adding Gaussian noise to the image. The performance of Turbo codes, in terms of bit error rate is better than other error coding schemes even in the region where the signal strength is very low. The Quality of the image is retained in the receiving end by proper design of the error-coding scheme. An analysis has been done on various parameters considered in the design of turbo codes. The images obtained after decoding are found to be suitable for recognition and diagnosis by the doctors in their mobile phones. This novel technology will enhance the health care in rural area where the opinion of a specialized doctor is not available.
