Sustainability has been defined as “the process of living within the limits of available physical, natural, and social resources in ways that allow the living systems in which humans are embedded to thrive in perpetuity” (Sustain SU, 2010). Hence, in terms of environmental sustainability, there needs to be a focus on the use of renewable rather than non-renewable resources. And even with renewable resources, there needs to be a focus on avoiding over-utilisation and wastage. Sustainability is about more than just ‘being green’. It is about doing things efficiently and effectively, being innovative and creating a positive impact, achieving excellence, and leaving lasting legacies.

The mobility industry is experiencing an in-depth transformation looking for higher efficiency, and this evolution has relevant impact from the economic and social perspective. Nevertheless, technological and mobility trends involve uncertainty on users, policy makers, and businesses. Thus, the analysis of the technologies and their associated trends is relevant for enabling a general understanding of new features and social benefits that can shape the mobility trends toward a better experience. This paper intends to forecast and understand the impact of the new trends on general public through qualitative research deployed with experts from different European countries. It aims at clarifying the predisposition to adapt daily habits to adopt autonomous and connected vehicles, electrical motorizations and servitization. Those areas of deployment in the mobility industry represent relevant dilemmas in terms of social exchange. Businesses, technical and physical infrastructures, public services and regulations are among those areas highly affected by this evolution. Despite the reported advantages of those trends, those innovations will only be supported by specific groups of population and policy-makers unless they show similar benefits to traditional mobility means. Mobility-as-a-Services will be widespread in parallel with the improvement of the service offered, cost reduction, and geographical coverage.

Optics has, since ancient times, being used as aid for the exam human patients and in some therapeutic treatments. Many of the optic medical instruments in use today were developed in the nineteenth century and, with the advent of optical fibers and laser light sources in the mid twentieth century, a new generation of medical devices, instruments, and techniques have been developed that have helped modernize medicine and perform task unimaginable only a few decades ago. This chapter illustrates through several optical instrument and application examples the uses, benefits, and future prospects that optics brings as an enabling technology to the medicine and the overall healthcare industry.

Abstract This article explains third-party dispute finance, including practical issues relating to the funding process and how to choose a funder. It examines some of the social benefits of funding and its importance in an economic downturn, and looks at some of the risks of dispute finance. It also considers the regulation of dispute finance in various Asian jurisdictions, as well as recent industry trends, including the use of dispute funding by well-resourced corporates and dispute-finance products for companies. It explains funding for insolvency-related claims and funding for the enforcement of awards and judgments. Finally, it provides two case-studies in which funding provided access to justice and enabled the funded party to recover a non-performing loan in multiple jurisdictions.

Patents protect the patent holders in that the patented process, design and invention can only be used or sold by the holder exclusively. Therefore, manufacturers use patents to gain a competitive edge against the competition. A patent analysis discovers which car parts are considered the most for future development in the automotive sector. The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze major trends and the potential implementation of patents. Furthermore, the research may reveal in detail the common R&D trends within a certain industry, differences among the major representative manufacturers and support to identify feasible future strategies for lagers. The patent analysis will be launched with the data collection from a patent database. To avoid the extensive computing time in R, only each patent document's abstract is deployed for the research. After data cleansing, the term frequency-inverse document frequency algorithm is used to find the keywords in the patent abstracts. To visualize results, the social network analysis is conducted. It identifies trends and relationships among the mapped keywords. The discovered major keywords constitute the graphs of the most important parts related to each other and are considered for the future.

In recent years, countless hospitality and tourism programs have been experiencing low enrollment, budgetary issues, low scores in the college rankings, and failure to secure good job opportunities for their graduates. This occurs due to the implementation of unethical hiring and recruiting practices for faculty and staff, poor decision-making over key operational areas, abusive supervision, lack of ethical leadership, and careless strategic planning. However, the major reason is that there has been a huge gap between the hospitality and tourism academia and the industry which keeps growing. This is a rapidly changing industry where new trends are constantly emerging, new technologies are introduced, and innovative strategies arise. Meanwhile, hospitality and tourism programs around the world fail to understand the ever-changing industry trends, adapt to the new standards, and revise their curriculum accordingly. COVID-19 was the final blow that pushed academic institutions to their limits and created additional challenges. This chapter aims to address the issues that the hospitality and tourism academia has been struggling with, offer practical recommendations that will help tackle its operational difficulties, provide top quality education, prepare the leaders of tomorrow effectively, and bring it closer to the industry.

In today’s digital economy, the Internet of Things (IoT) has connected devices, humans, and everyday objects to each other in ways that were unimaginable before. Vast amounts of data are collected everywhere and disrupting how we design systems and products. Data science and emerging technologies offer challenges and opportunities for early-career human factors professionals who are looking to grow their careers and their human factors practice. In this paper, we report on a survey to assess the perspectives of students currently studying human factors. The survey items examined shortfalls in current human factors education with re-spect to relevance to industry trends. The survey results show that students see a need to include more relevant subjects in data science, as well as opportunities to learn trending industry problems, hands-on experience with real-life projects, prior to graduation.
