In this paper, we monitored to effect of xanthohumol added to diet on blood biochemistry in Japanese quails. Forty Japanese quails breeds lines Pharaoh were included in the experiment. The quails were randomly divided into two groups: one control and one experimental group with supplementation by xanthohumol in feed. In the evaluation of biochemical parameters, we focused on total protein, albumin, globulin, glucose, cholesterol and enzyme activity of AST (Aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (Alanine aminotransferase) and ɤ-GT (ɤ-Glutamyltransferase). Statistical comparisons were made between group with supplementation by xanthohumol in feed and the control group. Total protein and albumin levels were significantly differed between groups (P <0.05). A significant decrease in AST activity (P <0.05) was observed in supplementation group relative to control group.

Biolasol is a newly developed solution for storing the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and heart by simple hypothermia. It exhibits high efficacy in maintaining structural and functional integrity of the graft prior to its transplantation. The solution was modified by the addition of ascorbic acid (0.088g/l) and ascorbic acid with prolactin (1 μg/l PRL + 0.088g/l vitamin C). The effectiveness of the obtained solutions in the protection of nephrons of isolated porcine kidneys was assessed based on the analysis of the activity of ALT (alanine aminotransferase), AST (aspartate aminotransferase), and LDH (lactate dehydrogenase) as well as lactate concentration determined in perfundates collected after 2 h (0′ and 30′ preservation) and 48 h (0′ and 30′ preservation) of graft storage. It has been found that the synergistic action of Biolasol components determines the integrity and stability of cell membranes, which in turn affects the proper functioning of the organ after transplantation. The addition of ascorbic acid and prolactin to Biolasol affects the maintenance of the normal cytoskeleton of the stored graft.

Background. Saliva is a complex biological fluid that has great potential as a diagnosis fluid for both oral and systemic diseases. At the same time, chronic hepatitis affects millions of people worldwide and can lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In this context, our research group aimed to evaluate the modifications produced in the saliva of patients with chronic hepatitis compared to healthy subjects. Material and method. The present work included 88 subjects that were divided into 4 groups, each consisting of 22 people. Saliva samples were collected for each participant to the study. Salivary levels of total protein (TP), IgA, IgG and aminotransferases AST (aspartate aminotransferase) and ALT (alanine aminotransferase) were determined. Results. Our results showed significantly increased salivary levels of TP, IgA, AST and ALT for patients with chronic viral hepatitis (CHV) and chronic alcoholic hepatitis (CAH) compared to controls. IgG salivary levels were also higher in patients with hepatitis versus controls, however while statistical significance could be found for patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and CAH, this was not the case for the patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Conclusions. The results of our study showed significantly increased salivary levels of the determined parameters in hepatitis patients compared to the healthy subjects, hence promoting the use of saliva as a diagnosis and monitoring fluid for chronic hepatitis.
