An in-depth study on a lighting location system is conducted in this paper. Firstly, the history and application of this system are summarized. The overall structure is detailed, including the detection principle of the lightning location, the orientation method, the detection circuit, the method of discriminating cloud flash and ground lightning signal, the error analysis, the guideline for station deployment, the preprocessing of the central station, and the function and structure of data server and user interface. The development of a lightning monitoring system in China is presented, and the construction of a new generation of a lightning location system in the Hubei Province power grid is introduced. Through the collection of measured data, the performance of the lightning location system in the lightning accident inspection rate, lightning location, and lightning situation statistics are analyzed. Artificial intelligence algorithms are applied in the lightning warning system. The new system has a high predicting accuracy.

The reported lightning accidents that are available in the DesInventar database—which consist of 549 deaths, 498 injured people, 39 destroyed houses, and 741 damaged houses—were analyzed in terms of their geographical and temporal variation. The average lightning flash densities were calculated using zonal statistics using the geographic information system (GIS), referring to the respective raster maps generated based on Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) data from the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) Satellite. Hence, the variations of the lightning accidents—monthly and climate season-wise—in response to the lightning flash density were also reported. The calculated average lightning flash density in Sri Lanka is 8.26 flashes km−2 year−1, and the maximum average lightning flash density of 31.33 flashes km−2 year−1 is observed in April in a calendar year. April seems to be more vulnerable to lightning accidents, as the maximum number of deaths (150 deaths) and injuries (147 injuries) were recorded in this month. Most of the high-risk lightning accident regions that were identified in Sri Lanka are well known for agricultural activities, and those activities will eventually create the platform for lightning victims. In Sri Lanka, in a year, 12 people were killed and 11 people were injured, based on the reported accidents from 1974 to 2019. Conversely, a substantial increase in the number of deaths, injuries, and incidents of property damage has been observed in the last two decades (2000–2019). On average, for the period from 2000 to 2019, 18 people were killed and 16 people were injured per year. Furthermore, considering the population of the country, 0.56 people per million per year were killed, and 0.51 people per million per year were injured due to lightning accidents based on the reported accidents from 1974 to 2019. Moreover, for the 2000–2019 period, these estimated values are significantly higher; 0.86 people per million per year were killed, and 0.77 people per million per year were injured.

Wind power has become one of the most potential and vital green energy sources. Location of the wind farm has a better wind resource,and it is also relatively open. Lightning accident in the wind farm happened occasionally, in order to avoid the situation, which impulse current damages the wind turbine, in the accident, lightning protection grounding system of wind turbine is essential .In this paper, according to the experience of Dongshan wind farm project , the method of how to design the wind turbines and booster station grounding grid as required, the calculation of ground resistance and specific measures to reduce grounding resistance of wind turbine grounding device are discussed.

With the lightning position data in recent years of Jiangsu, satellite and live data on 3rd,July,2012, the reasons for the damage to office room equipment beside a communication base station in Wujin District, Changzhou were analyzed, and reasonable suggestions were given. Based on the lightning accident, this paper analyzed the reasons of lightning strike to buildings near communication base station from weather, lightning strike probability, the validity of lightning protection device and potential. It is mainly because of lightning electromagnetic pulse. Base station can protect the buildings inside the protective area from direct strike, but which increased the possibility of damage to equipment from lightning impulse, at the same time, direct lightning strike probability in the scattered strike zone may increase. Therefore communication base station should be sufficiently far away from the building, when it cant meet a safe distance, not only the direct lightning protection measures should be taken to protect the station and buildings, but also protection measures against lightning electromagnetic pulse for equipment in buildings around are needed.

Through the analysis of the microwave tower stuck by lightning, as well as a microwave tower can trigger distribution lines occur lightning accidents, and explaining the consequences of the distribution lines and precautions. From two accidents, discussing the reasons for producing direct lightning stroke and lightning, at the same time demonstrate the over voltage of two kinds of lightning damage the magnitude and the power distribution network, and finally discussing the effective measures to prevent such accidents.

The lightning current parameters are very important for the lightning-line monitoring, they can provide important raw data for the construction of power grids and lightning protection engineering, conducive to the maintenance of high voltage transmission lines. But also provide the objective basis of the lightning accident analysis and statistics of lightning law. In this paper, we have Investigated parts of the complex and diverse terrain characteristics of Guizhou Province, we plan to design a simple, economic, effective data acquisition system for lightning current, timely and accurate grasp of the local lightning. we have done some research on the measurement mechanisms of lightning current strength. First, a novel lightning current strength detection program is proposed, and then we have done a lot of tests on the program and depicted the related parametric curve. Last, we verify the linearity of this sensor.
