Flood inundation and shoreline erosion have long occurred in Sayung, Demak area, the northern coast of Central Java Province, Indonesia. The people of Sayung planted mangroves to reduce the flood inundation and shoreline erosion in that area. They built the bamboo array to protect the juvenile mangroves from incoming waves. The bamboo acts as a breakwater and is considered an environmentally friendly permeable structure to reduce wave energy and stimulate sedimentation. This paper discusses three bamboo arrays’ effectiveness in wave reduction using Numerical Wave Tank (NWT). The interaction of regular waves with a permeable structure comprising a single row of vertical circular poles was conducted based on the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The effect of different waves and structural dimensions on the permeable structure was investigated based on the structure’s transmission coefficient (Kt) performance. The investigations have revealed that structures with the combination of Vertical-Horizontal formation (VH) attenuate more wave energy than Vertical Only (VO) and the combination of Vertical-Diagonal formation (VD). As the wave steepness increases, the transmission coefficient decreases. Likewise, the transmission coefficient (Kt) is decreasing when the wave height is increasing. On the other hand, the transmission coefficient (Kt) increases as the wave period increases. As the structure spacing ratio between end-to-end and center-to-center spacing (e/S) rises, the transmission coefficient (Kt) also increases. The diameter (D) has a slight effect on the transmission coefficient (Kt). However, the center-to-center spacing (S) has a more significant impact than the diameter on the transmission coefficient, affecting an inclination on the transmission coefficient (Kt) when center-to-center spacing (S) goes up.

Techniques for reducing the reflection of acoustic signals have recently been actively studied. Most methods for reducing acoustic signals were studied using the normal-incidence wave reduction technique. Although the technique of canceling an object from the normal incidence wave is essential, research on reducing acoustic signals according to the angle of incidence is required for practical applications. In this study, we designed, fabricated, and experimented with an active reflection controller that can reduce acoustic signals according to the angle of incidence. The controller consists of a transmitter on one layer, a receiver sensor on two layers, and an acoustic window on three layers. To reduce the reflected signal, a combination of the time delay and phase was applied to the controller to minimize the acoustic signal by up to −23 dB at an angle of 10°. A controller array simulation was performed based on the results of a controlled experiment. In conclusion, our proposed controller can reduce acoustic signals according to the angle of incidence, which makes it suitable for many applications.

Abstract We consider 1/4 BPS black hole solutions of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 gauged supergravity in AdS4. The near horizon geometry is AdS2 × S2 and supersymmetry is enhanced. In the first part of the paper we choose a moment map, which allows the embedding of this supergravity solution into a sugra theory with a hypermultiplet. We then perform the s-wave reduction of this theory at the horizon and determine the dilaton multiplet, which couples to both metric and gravitino fluctuations. In the second part we work with Euclidean axial $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = (2, 2) JT supergravity and show how to add gauged matter in form of covariantly twisted chiral and anti-chiral multiplets. We demonstrate how to reduce the on-shell action to boundary superspace. We compare both theories and calculate the fourpoint function by integrating out gravitons, gravitini and photons for the s-wave setting and by use of the Super-Schwarzian modes in the JT theory.

In this study, electroencephalogram (EEG) and cardiac activity status of the human body while using various types of seats during rest were analyzed in indoor summer conditions. Thermal comfort was also evaluated through a subjective survey. The EEG, cardiac activity status, and subjective survey during rest indicated that the use of ventilation and cold water-cooling seats was effective. This effectiveness was because of the θ-wave and α-wave activation, sensorimotor rhythm, β-wave reduction, and left hemisphere activation, demonstrating that the conditions applied were suitable for rest. According to the analysis of the subjective questionnaire survey, the use of ventilation and cold water-cooling seats provided a more pleasant state than the basic seat, improving the subject’s warmth and comfort, and also the concentration. In addition, the use of a cold water-cooling seat provided the highest satisfaction level, being the most favorable condition for rest.

We study the similarity solutions and we determine the conservation laws of various forms of beam equations, such as Euler-Bernoulli, Rayleigh and Timoshenko-Prescott. The travelling-wave reduction leads to solvable fourth-order odes for all the forms. In addition, the reduction based on the scaling symmetry for the Euler-Bernoulli form leads to certain odes for which there exists zero symmetries. Therefore, we conduct the singularity analysis to ascertain the integrability. We study two reduced odes of second and third orders. The reduced second-order ode is a perturbed form of Painlevé-Ince equation, which is integrable and the third-order ode falls into the category of equations studied by Chazy, Bureau and Cosgrove. Moreover, we derived the symmetries and its corresponding reductions and conservation laws for the forced form of the abovementioned beam forms. The Lie Algebra is mentioned explicitly for all the cases.
