This prospective multicentric study aiming to determine the incidence of complications (malignant transformation, torsion or rupture) during conservative management of adnexal masses was performed in two Portuguese tertiary referral hospitals. It included ≥18-year-old, non-pregnant patients with asymptomatic adnexal masses (associated IOTA ADNEX risk of malignancy < 10%) sonographically diagnosed between January 2016 and December 2020. Conservative patient management consisted of serial clinical and ultrasound assessment up to 60 months of follow-up, spontaneous resolution of the formation or surgical excision (median follow-up: 17.8; range 9–48 months). From the 573 masses monitored (328 premenopausal and 245 postmenopausal adnexal masses), no complications were observed in 99.5%. The annual lesion growth rates and increases in morphological complexity were similar in the premenopausal and postmenopausal patients. Spontaneous resolution, evidenced in 16.4% of the patients, was more common in the premenopausal group (p < 0.05). Surgical intervention was performed in 18.4% of the cases; one borderline and one invasive FIGO IA stage cancer were diagnosed. There was an isolated case of ovary torsion (0.17%). These data support conservative management as a safe option for sonographically benign, stable and asymptomatic adnexal masses before and after menopause and highlight the need for expedite treatment of symptomatic or increased-morphological-complexity lesions.

Negotiation is one of the most used conflict management procedures in the school context, since through an effective solution against violence is reached. This investigation considers personal and scholars variables that can influence negotiation efficacy in conflicts between elementary school students, namely sex, school grade, number of failures, study time school goals, and evaluation. Following a quantitative approach, the sample consisted of 874 Portuguese students from elementary schools, 452 males and 422 females with ages ranged between 10 and 18 years. The instruments applied were a personal questionnaire, and the School Conflicts Negotiation Efficacy Questionnaire (SCNEQ). The results show that sex, number of failures, and study time have an influence on the students' negotiation efficacy, as well as on student´s evaluations. The limitations of the study and practical implications for conflict management in schools are also presented, namely that the development of students’ negotiation abilities is relevant.

Abstract Objectives Dignity therapy (DT) is a brief, individualized intervention, which provides terminally ill patients with an opportunity to convey memories, essential disclosures, and prepare a final generativity document. DT addresses psychosocial and existential issues, enhancing a sense of meaning and purpose. Several studies have considered the legacy topics most frequently discussed by patients near the end of life. To date, no Portuguese study has done that analysis. Method We conducted a qualitative analysis of 17 generativity documents derived from a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Inductive content analysis was used to identify emerging themes. Results From the 39 RCT participants receiving DT, 17 gave consent for their generativity document to undergo qualitative analysis. Nine patients were female; mean age of 65 years, with a range from 46 to 79 years. Seven themes emerged: “Significant people and things”; “Remarkable moments”; “Acknowledgments”; “Reflection on the course of life”; “Personal values”; “Messages left to others”; and “Requests and last wishes”. Significance of results Generativity document analysis provides useful information for patients nearing death, including their remarkable life moments and memories, core values, concerns, and wishes for their loved ones. Being conscious of these dominant themes may allow health providers to support humanized and personalized care to vulnerable patients and their families, enhancing how professionals perceive and respond to personhood within the clinical setting.

Abstract Background Breastfeeding provides benefits for children, mothers, society and the environment. The promotion of optimal breastfeeding, from an early stage in life is, therefore, a public health priority. Infant feeding can be influenced by maternal country of birth. However, studies carried out in European settings point to inconsistent findings. This study aims to compare first day in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding among migrant and native women in Portugal. Methods This study is based on a national project on perinatal health among migrants and natives in Portugal (baMBINO). Out of 39 public maternity units in mainland Portugal, 32 were enrolled. Women aged 18 years old or older with a live birth were recruited. The final sample included 5109 participants (2431 natives and 2678 migrants). Logistic regression was used to assess the association between maternal country of birth and in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding. Results Migrant participants included women from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PSAC) (49,7%), Brazil (18%), Eastern Europe (10.2%), other European countries (9.6%), Asia (5.5%) and other countries (7.0%). No differences were found between migrants and natives, with the exception of women from PSAC who were more likely to exclusively breastfeed during the first day of hospital stay (aOR 1.34 CI95% 1.05-1.72), irrespective of maternal age, education, parity, type of pregnancy, reproductive assistance, tobacco use, gestational age, newborn birth weight, mode of delivery and antenatal care. Conclusions In Portugal, women from PSAC are more likely to exclusively breastfeed their babies during the first day of hospital stay when compared to native women. Strategies to maintain healthy breastfeeding practices in this population are fundamental. Key messages Women from PSAC are more likely to breastfeed exclusively in the first day after delivery than Portuguese natives. They should be supported in the maintenance of optimal breastfeeding practices.

Eyewitness memory is widely studied in the forensic context, due to their proneness to make unreliable testimonies. Understanding which factors may impact memory is determinant to avoid wrongful convictions in court. In this exploratory study, the relation between stress and anxiety and memory errors (spontaneous and induced) was analyzed being hypothesized that negative emotions may impair memory performance. Crime and neutral videos were presented to 80 volunteer university students in a between subject-design. They were asked to fill some stress and anxiety scales throughout the experimental task, as well as a free recall task. Also, it was presented several questions about the videos in which spontaneous and induced errors were assessed. Results suggests that stress and anxiety did not influence the quantity of memory errors for both genders. However, overall memory performance was poor for both groups. Our results were discussed in light to existing theories about the relation between stress-anxiety and memory.
