We present a study that looks at the relationship between the ethical climate, considered as a set of social norms, and judgments and behaviors in the workplace. In this case we think that an ethical rule reflecting the climate is only actualized in conduct and/or decisions if the rule is applicable, is shared, and is the subject of social expectations. A total of 277 professionals responded to a questionnaire measuring the normativity of three ethical rules, socio-moral judgment, trust in supervisors, turnover intention, and discrimination as well as abusive supervision. The results confirm our hypothesis. This leads to a different view of how the ethical climate is measured and constructed in the workplace.

Normative ethics has been shown to help automated planners take ethically aware decisions. However, state- of-the-art planning technologies don’t provide a sim- ple and direct way to support ethical features. Here, we propose a new theoretical framework based on a con- struct, called ethical rule, that allows to model prefer- ences amongst ethically charged features and capture various ethical theories. We show how the framework can model and combine the strengths of these theories. Then, we demonstrate that classical planning domains extended with ethical rules can be compiled into soft goals in PDDL.

This research aimed to describe the construction of meaning that signals the radical ideology in poem “Nggahi Dana,” which is often recited in the folk games known in Dompu regency. The meaning construction was approached using hermeneutic theory of Hans-George Gadamer and other theories, namely poststructural theory and literature sociology. The research used qualitative method with analytical description character. Data were collected through field observations with recording-video technique. Data were later transcribed with bookkeeping. Data interpretation was made using literature method. Results indicate that ideology construction in the poem “Nggahi Dana” in Dompu regency relates to societal value, philosophy, norm, religious belief, sentimentality, ethical rule, knowledge or perception about world and ethos.

This article describes the recent revision of the Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors, specifically addressing the Roles and Relationships With Clients ethical standard. A brief historical overview is provided of the terminology and the debate surrounding the outdated dual-relationship ethical rule in rehabilitation counseling. The term exploitation is also delimited. The revised ethical standards are addressed, with attention given to the standard allowing for “potentially beneficial” interactions. Implications for rehabilitation counseling practice are outlined.

The American Bar Association recently revised the ethical rules that govern lawyers. Its Ethics 2000 Commission proposed a number of changes to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, including revisions to the rules that affect how the profession handles conflicts of interest in the area of attorneys who draft instruments that name themselves as fiduciaries. The intersection of these changes, with their subsequent clarification by an ABA opinion issued in May 2002, has broad implications for attorneys practicing in this area. Given the increasing elderly population, the trillions of dollars that they are transferring to their baby-boomer children, and the shrinking number of banks willing to assume the role of fiduciary, there is an argument that the profession should be encouraging its members to take on this role for clients. However, the financial interest that the drafting attorney has in the fiduciary fee and the information asymmetry between lawyers and most clients create a conflict of interest. This article explores the ethical norm that resulted from the Ethics 2000 revisions to the Model Rules and the issuance of the ABA opinion interpreting those revisions. It explores the flaws in this norm and how it might be revised to better minimize the agency costs that exist while remaining consistent with the fiduciary nature of the attorney-client relationship.
