The paper presents a proposal of a complete CAD Automation solution enabling customization of the production of medical screws to individual patient requirements. The proposed approach using OLE technology enables the introduction of customization at the CAD project stage. The assembly of the surgical screw in the PLM system is generated by means of a specially developed application. The application communicates with the SolidEdge system using an API, taking into account 10 different input parameters. Three different types of medical screws have been developed in the application: the Herbert Screw, Cancellous Screw, and Malleolar Screw with three different thread types: rectangular, isosceles, and trapezoidal. The screws designed in this way can be manufactured using 3D printing techniques or CNC machining, and can be used for both humans and animals.

Purpose The purpose of this research is to support the customization ability for industrial house building companies striving to offer individualized products but with a strategy which includes a production facility. This is accomplished by analyzing the as-is state in terms of existing engineering assets and by proposing a to-be state using the design platform and product lifecycle management (PLM) support. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on design research methodology and collected data are in-depth interviews, document reviews and workshops and method development. The theoretical baseline is product platforms and the design platform. Findings The analysis showed that despite use of a platform, inherent assets are disorganized. Still, the identified object-based engineering assets were possible to include in a conceptual proposal for better management, both in the process and product view, using an asset relationship matrix and a PLM system. Practical implications The results should be applicable for industrial house building and off-site construction companies and offers an approach to identify and manage their assets and platforms which are crucial to stay competitive. Originality/value Previous research on design platforms has focused on engineer-to-order companies within the mechanical industry. The contribution of this paper lies in the application and support of the design platform for industrial house building and the introduction of PLM system support.

Based on product lifecycle management (PLM) theory and social comparison theory, this paper constructs a performance ranking model of automobile product development project team members, uses an active server provider (ASP) to develop the system, realizes the online operation and real-time analysis of the performance management system, and solves the problems of the low efficiency, low morale and unfair assessment of product development team members caused by traditional performance assessment. The performance management platform for the team members of the automotive product development project uses a PLM system to realize a systematic and standardized list of project functions and provide a performance appraisal management system that can be evaluated and fairly compared for project team members. Based on the performance appraisal practice of automotive product development project team members of M Automotive Products Company, this study verified the feasibility of the ranking model’s transformation to work habits based on the predetermined and result data of the mission completion rate, the punctuality rate and the degree of improvement of the management level of product development project team. Through the tracking of the team performance ranking function, it is found that the model can solve the problems of untimely assessment and insufficient incentives in the current traditional performance appraisal, enhance the overall enthusiasm of the team, and give full play to the subjective initiative of the team.

The article discusses a system widely implemented in the designing of equipment for the NX construction industry. Along with this system, a modern automation tool was used. The most common and most used products are Siemens products: PLM-system "Teamcenter". The functionality of this configuration is huge, it includes such applications a "Manager of Structure", "Classifier", "Advanced Studio", "Ray Tracing Studio", etc. For example, it is possible to create a single product structure with various configurations, machine components and assemblies, using the "Structure Manager". This structure allows to simplify the introduction of changes and the development of a digital electronic model. For the final visualization and rendering, the NX system provides a certain set of tools, which includes "Extended Studio" and "Ray Tracing Studio". "Advanced Studio" is an application allowing to get high-quality image, including the effects of materials, textures, lighting, shadows and reflections for the product in the CAD/CAM/CAE NX system. "Ray Tracing Studio" allows to get the rendering of the future product. In the Ray Tracing Studio editor, it is possible to configure such parameters as dynamic tracing setting, real-time ray tracing setting, display static high-quality tracing setting, and general display settings. Creation of a product in this system can be considered by the example of a digital electronic model of a roller support.
