In order to serve the local economic development, this study investigates the demand for local talents and analyzes the characteristics of the talent training in artificial intelligence in local colleges and universities. Subsequently, the talent training objectives of artificial intelligence specialty have been formulated, and a curriculum system that integrates the industry and education has been constructed in hope to continuously provide high-quality talents in artificial intelligence for the society.

The global economic trends and the winds of technological change have elevated the status of integration between industry and education for innovation and entrepreneurship to that of being a national strategic priority of China. However, for a long time prior to that, the many differences between the industrial and educational systems have caused a rift between education for innovation and entrepreneurship and professional education, a profound disconnection between professional education and the local industries, and the subsequent disinterest of entrepreneurial mentors. In this paper, we analyze the status of education for innovation and entrepreneurship in Chinese technical universities. It is pointed out that technical universities should deepen the integration between the industry and education for innovation and entrepreneurship in order to mitigate the imbalance between the supply side of the higher education talent training and the demand side of industrial development. It is also argued that technical universities should change their talent training paradigm, which includes a makeover of the organizational structure and of the curricular system, as well as make amends in the innovation ecosystem with respect to the organization of incubation platforms and of teacher–student teams, in order to promote national and regional economic development, as well as social progress. A method to evaluate the performance of the education for innovation and entrepreneurship in Chinese technical universities, based on specific performance indicators including patents filled, publications, awards in competitions, and acquired funding and on certain non-specific ones including organizational arrangements and satisfaction rates, is presented and then applied to the specific case of the Changzhou Institute of Technology.

Abstract Floods are one of the most common natural disasters in the world that affect all aspects of life, including human beings, agriculture, industry, and education. Research for developing models of flood predictions has been ongoing for the past few years. These models are proposed and built-in proportion for risk reduction, policy proposition, loss of human lives, and property damages associated with floods. However, flood status prediction is a complex process and demands extensive analyses on the factors leading to the occurrence of flooding. Consequently, this research proposes an Internet of Things-based flood status prediction (IoT-FSP) model that is used to facilitate the prediction of the rivers flood situation. The IoT-FSP model applies the Internet of Things architecture to facilitate the flood data acquisition process and three machine learning (ML) algorithms, which are Decision Tree (DT), Decision Jungle, and Random Forest, for the flood prediction process. The IoT-FSP model is implemented in MATLAB and Simulink as development platforms. The results show that the IoT-FSP model successfully performs the data acquisition and prediction tasks and achieves an average accuracy of 85.72% for the three-fold cross-validation results. The research finding shows that the DT scores the highest accuracy of 93.22%, precision of 92.85, and recall of 92.81 among the three ML algorithms. The ability of the ML algorithm to handle multivariate outputs of 13 different flood textual statuses provides the means of manifesting explainable artificial intelligence and enables the IoT-FSP model to act as an early warning and flood monitoring system.

According to ecological system theory, both the microsystem environment (home environment) and the more macrolevel environment (provincial environment) influence school engagement in adolescents. This study tests an ecological model of adolescents’ school engagement with 19,084 middle school students across 31 provincial-level regions in China. Multilevel modeling is used to predict adolescents’ school engagement (behavior, emotion, and cognition) at two levels, individual [gender and family socioeconomic status (SES)] and provincial (economy, public cultural facilities, technological industry and education). The school engagement of students varies significantly across provincial-level regions. SES positively affects the school engagement of students. Students benefit from the provincial environment when the economy is booming, public cultural facilities are adequate and education is flourishing. The development of the technology industry fails to boost students’ school engagement. Limitations and future directions are discussed.

Innovation is inevitable for economic development of the China and even the world, and entrepreneurship education is also an important topic for educators at home and abroad. It is an important issue for the sustainable development and effective operation of industry and education to establish an integrated support system of industry and education in universities. The purpose of this research is to analyze the reform of entrepreneurship education in the fusion of industrial education and university education and use the latest 5G fog computing technology. In this study, we select different types of universities and graduates as our subject. This study gathers the problems that exist in the academic view and measures of the integration of university production and education, education facilities, and entrepreneurship education through research, literature analysis, and interview methods. A corresponding solution is proposed in conjunction with an analysis model of student performance evaluation. The results show that 22% of teachers think that entrepreneurship education helps students develop in an all-round way, 42% of teachers interviewed think that entrepreneurship education is “graduation service,” 13% of teachers think that entrepreneurship education is an organic supplement to professional education, and 23% of teachers interviewed say it is difficult to position it. 80.5% of university teachers think that the current school management system is not suitable for combination of production and learning, school enterprise cooperation, and development needs. It is concluded that the reform of entrepreneurship education system industry and education that are combined in this study has a good effect on improving the current employment problem, but the adaptation degree of colleges and universities is insufficient. This study contributes to the development of integrated model of new technology with entrepreneurship education.

Based on context-input-process-product (CIPP) model, this paper proposed an evaluation system of the talent cultivation quality of modern apprenticeship in high vocational education schools, and applied the proposed system to evaluate the talent cultivation quality of modern apprenticeship in an example school H. The research findings of this study revealed that, on the one hand, it will greatly improve the quality of cultivated talents if the talent cultivation objectives are kept in line with the requirements of employer companies, the apprenticeship system is built according to the law of student growth and development, and there’re good apprenticeship project resources, support and management; on the other hand, it will have an adverse impact on the effect of apprenticeship projects if students’ employment willingness has not been fully motivated, or the implementation environment is poor for the apprenticeship, or the tutors in enterprises change frequently. Based on these findings, this paper proposed a few countermeasures for improving the talent cultivation quality of modern apprenticeship, that is: fully consider students’ appeals and boost their desire for employment; forge a team of enterprise tutors capable of and good at teaching; improve the quality of apprenticeship projects for junior year students; deepen the integration between industry and education and provide strong guarantee for both school education and enterprise training.
