The projective test is not only helpful to find the potential psychological crisis, but also to overcome the language barrier and make up for the deficiency of the questionnaire test to a certain extent. In this study, 403 college students (205 Tibetan students and 198 Han students) from a national college were selected to test their mental health with Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and House-Tree-Person test (HTP).By comparing the results of questionnaire test and drawing projection test, it is found that SCL-90 and HTP test are significantly related to the positive screening results of four factors: Somatization, Depression, Anxiety and Phobic Anxiety. Both HTP test and SCL-90 test results show that the scores of Somatization, Depression, Anxiety and Phobic Anxiety of Tibetan and Han college students were significantly different; the scores of Anxiety and Phobic Anxiety of different gender college students were significantly different. Using HTP test as a supplementary test of questionnaire test can effectively improve the accuracy of screening.

This chapter discusses the use of the third version of the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination, ACE-III, which has evolved from the early ACE via the ACE-R. The major difference between the ACE-III and earlier versions is the removal of the MMSE which was previously incorporated within the longer test. The chapter describes the ACE-III in full together with scoring criteria and normative data. The ACE-III is freely available and can be downloaded from http://www.ftdrg.org. It has been translated into over 20 languages and is in widespread use in cognitive clinics around the world. The section on the ACE-III is followed by suggestions for ‘add-on’ bedside tasks that test areas not well covered by the ACE-III, such as tests for remote memory, frontal executive function, language, calculation, praxis, neglect phenomena, and complex visuoperceptual abilities and prosopagnosia.

Background: Inspite of good monitoring in labour, there are still adverse labour outcomes. There is a need for supplementary test for early prediction of prolonged labour and fetal hypoxia. This study was undertaken to find to find the association between intrapartum amniotic fluid lactate level and labour outcome. Methods: 103 antenatal patients low risk at term, who entered into active labour either spontaneously or induced between September 2012 to August 2013 were included. Amniotic fluid was collected after doing ARM and lactate level was measured. Chi square test was used to find correlation between lactate level and duration of labour, mode of delivery and Apgar score. Results: In our study, patients with duration of labour between 8-<20hours 88 % had lactate level <10mmol/l, thus intra partum amniotic fluid lactate levels had a good negative predictive value when it was compared with the duration of labour. When the mode of delivery was analysed using Chi square test there was no statistically significant correlation (p<0.825) with amniotic fluid lactate. Spearman Rank correlation was done to observe correlation between lactate levels and Apgar which showed a correlation of 0.20 with p<0.05.Conclusions: Amniotic fluid lactate levels had better correlation with duration of labour and Apgar score. The lower the amniotic fluid lactate level, the better is the Apgar at birth. Better correlation could have been observed if amniotic fluid lactate levels were repeated every 3-4 hours during active labor. However, this was not possible due to practical difficulty in collection of sample.

The new BD Max GC real-time PCR assay showed high clinical and analytical sensitivity and specificity. It can be an effective and accurate supplementary test for the BD ProbeTec GC Qx amplified DNA assay, which had suboptimal specificity, and might also be used for initial detection ofNeisseria gonorrhoeae.

Chapter 7 describes the use of the revised version of the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination: ACE-R. The original test was developed in our clinics in the 1990s and was shown to be sensitive to early Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and to differentiate AD from frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This chapter also describes the ACE-R together with scoring criteria and normative data followed by suggestions for ‘add-on’ bedside tasks that test areas not well covered by the ACE-R.
