This paper aimed to evaluate the effect of vehicle and chemical modifications of the structure of active compounds on the skin permeation and accumulation of ibuprofen [IBU]. In vitro permeation experiments were performed using human abdominal skin and Strat-M™ membrane. The HPLC method was used for quantitative determinations. The formulations tested were hydrogels containing IBU and its derivatives and commercial gel with ibuprofen. The results obtained indicate that Celugel® had an enhancing effect on the skin penetration of IBU. The average cumulative mass of [IBU] after 24 h permeation test from Celugel® formulation through human skin was over 3 times higher than for the commercial product. Three ibuprofen derivatives containing [ValOiPr][IBU], [ValOPr][IBU], and [ValOBu][IBU] cation were evaluated as chemical penetration enhancers. The cumulative mass after 24 h of penetration was 790.526 ± 41.426, 682.201 ± 29.910, and 684.538 ± 5.599 μg IBU cm−2, respectively, compared to the formulation containing unmodified IBU-429.672 ± 60.151 μg IBU cm−2. This study demonstrates the perspective of the transdermal hydrogel vehicle in conjunction with the modification of the drug as a potential faster drug delivery system.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a vaginal infection caused by excessive bacterial growth, thus disrupting the natural balance of bacteria inside the vagina. Metronidazole becomes a drug of choice and a widely prescribed drug for the treatment of BV. However, when applied topically, metronidazole has a low vaginal residence time because of the natural washing mechanism of the vagina. This study aimed to improve the retention time of metronidazole inside the vagina and control its release profile. This study was prepared 4 formulas of gel for metronidazole microsponges with some concentration ratio of carbomer and triethanolamine. The evaluations carried out to test the efficacy of the developed formulation included organoleptic, pH measurement, spreadability, viscosity, mucoadhesive properties, permeation test using Franz diffusion cell and retention test. The results showed that the gel appearance was white, odourless and homogenous. The characteristics of all prepared gel for pH, viscosity, spreadability, and mucoadhesive ability were appropriate to the required standard for vaginal delivery. The permeation and retention test showed that F3 with the carbomer and triethanolamine concentration of 1.25%: 1.75% was able to retain and controlled the drug release locally in the vaginal mucosa. This study provides an alternative strategy in drug formulation for the treatment of BV.

Skin has a very important role in determining percutaneous absorption of active substance in topical administration. Study on percutaneous permeation of piroxicam from gel had been conducted using Franz Diffusion Cell with membrane model of shed snakeskin and cellulose. Piroxicam gels were made using Aqupec HV-505 base with 0; 2.5; 5; and 7.5% of DMSO as an enhancer. The results showed that the most stable gel preparation was the one with 5% DMSO (F2), so it was used for further investigation to which percutaneous permeation test. The permeation test was conducted in preparation without and with 5% DMSO (F2) in vitro through shed snakeskin and cellulose membranes. The results showed that F2 increased the permeation rate by as much as 0.0281% per minute. In comparison, the permeation rate of formulation without DMSO (F0) was 0.012% per minute. It can be concluded that DMSO can increase piroxicam penetration through shed snakeskin. Permeation study using cellulose membrane on formula F2 revealed permeation rate as much as 0.006% per minute whereas that without DMSO (F0) was 0.0112% per minute.Keywords: DMSO, cellulose membrane, percutaneous permeation, piroxicam, shed snakeskin.

Different fibers like steel, glass, basalt, coconut, sugarcane fibers are used to improve the tensile strength in the concrete. The sugarcane bagasse fiber (SCBF) is utilized in this paper work. This SCBF is the final extract of the sugar industries which contains the large fibers. The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of SCBF on the permeation properties of the geopolymer concrete (GPC) of G40 and compared to its equivalent M40 grade. The specimens of conventional concrete (CC) and conventional concrete with SBF (CCF) are casted and cured in the curing tanks for a period of 28 day, and the GPC and GPCF specimens are casted and oven cured at a temperature of 60OC for a time period of 24 hours and the test are performed after 28 days of ambient curing of the specimens. The permeation test like (Water absorption test, Sorptivity and Water Permeability test) are carried in the paper. Based on the results it is observed that the permeation properties of CCF and GPCF are more resistant when compared to the CC and GPC respectively.
