Abstract In this paper, we show that a simple generalization of the holographic axion model can realize spontaneous breaking of translational symmetry by considering a special gauge-axion higher derivative term. The finite real part and imaginary part of the stress tensor imply that the dual boundary system is a viscoelastic solid. By calculating quasi-normal modes and making a comparison with predictions from the elasticity theory, we verify the existence of phonons and pseudo-phonons, where the latter is realized by introducing a weak explicit breaking of translational symmetry, in the transverse channel. Finally, we discuss how the phonon dynamics affects the charge transport.

Gravel bars have an important role in the exchange between surface and subsurface waters, in preventing and mitigating riverbank erosion, in allowing the recreational use of rivers, and in preserving fluvial or riparian habitats for species of fishes, invertebrates, plants, and birds. In many cases, gravel bars constitute an important substrate for the establishment and development of ground flora and woody vegetation and guarantee higher plant diversity. A sustainable management of braided rivers should, therefore, ensure their ecological potential and biodiversity by preserving a suitable braiding structure over time. In the present study, we propose an analytical–numerical model for predicting the evolution of gravel bars in conditions of dynamical equilibrium. The model is based on the combination of sediment balance equation and a regression formula relating dimensionless unit bedload rate and stream power. The results highlight the dependence of the evolving sediment particles’ pattern on the ratio of initial macro-bedforms longitudinal dimension to river width, which determines the gradual transition from advective and highly braiding to diffusive transport regime. Specifically, the tendency to maintain braiding and flow bifurcation is associated with equilibrium average bed profiles and, therefore, equilibrium average stream power characterized by the maximum period that does not exceed transverse channel dimension.

One of difficulties in super long tunnels’ construction is the construction ventilation to meet the requirement of normal construction environment and assure the workers’ health. Using traditional tunnelling ventilation is very difficult to meet the need of super long tunnel construction. As the energy assumption is high and it is very expensive. This paper investigated the simulation of tunnel construction ventilation with large power jet fans during the construction of Jinping Auxiliary Tunnels by using the computational fluid code FLUENT, the layout of jet fans in the tunnels is optimized. It is found that the best layout of the jet fan is aroud the transverse channel under the direction of airflow and jet fan should not be too far away from the transverse channel. The CO mainly distributes in the upper part of the tunnel when the jet fan is installed at a higher position, this layout of the jet fan is beneficial to construction of tunnels.
