ABSTRACTThe structures of aluminum nitride and aluminum oxide powders have been modified by explosive shock treatment at pressures from 4 to 27 GPa. Shockinduced dislocations in AlN were apparently responsible for enhancement in hot pressing behavior. In Al2O3 an increase 3 to 4 times in densification rates after shocking resulted-from rapid sintering of aggregates in the powder.

The process of the reactive ion etching of synthetic monocrystalline diamond with thick aluminum oxide and aluminum nitride protective masks for increasing the surface of diamond was studied. The etching selectivity of aluminum oxide and aluminum nitride were determined. The relief structures in a shape of ribs with more than 2 µm height, 5 µm period and 45° profile slope were fabricated on diamond surface. These structures increase the effective surface area 1.3 times.

The non-traditional method of obtainingclusters of heterogenous and homogenous nanooxides, nitrides of aluminum by substitution ofoxygen atoms with low-energy nitrogen ions inthe solid phase inside the nanopores of aluminum oxide Al2O3 (nanosapfire) is proposed and implemented. The AlN, AlNxO1-x, Al2O3 nanolayers was experimentally obtained
