The pellicular structure of Euglena gracilis consists of a series of relatively rigid strips (Fig. 1) composed of ridges and grooves which are helically oriented along the cell and which fuse together into a common junction at either end of the cell. The strips are predominantly protein and consist in part of a series of fibers about 50 Å in diameter spaced about 85 Å apart and with a secondary periodicity of about 450 Å. Microtubules are also present below each strip (Fig. 1) and are often considered as part of the pellicular complex. In addition, there may be another fibrous component near the base of the pellicle which has not yet been very well defined. The pellicular complex lies underneath the plasma membrane and entirely within the cell (Fig. 1). Each strip of the complex forms an overlapping junction with the adjacent strip along one side of each groove (Fig. 1), in such a way that a certain amount of sideways movement is possible between one strip and the next.

This  study  contributes  to  developing  our understanding of gender and family business. It draws on studies from the business history and management literatures and provides an interdisciplinary synthesis. It illuminates the role of women and their participation in the entrepreneurial practices of the family and the business. Leadership is introduced as a concept to examine the roles of women and men in family firms, arguing that concepts used  by  historians or economists like ownership and management have served to make women ‘invisible’, at least in western developed economies in which owners and managers have been historically due to legal rules  of  the  game  men,  and  minoritarily women. Finally, it explores gender relations and  the  notion  that  leadership  in  family business  may  take  complex  forms  crafte within constantly changing relationships.

The last two decades have brought several attempts to explain the self as a part of the Bayesian brain, typically within the framework of predictive coding. However, none of these attempts have looked comprehensively at the developmental aspect of self-representation. The goal of this paper is to argue that looking at the developmental trajectory is crucial for understanding the structure of an adult self-representation. The paper argues that the emergence of the self should be understood as an instance of conceptual development, which in the context of a Bayesian brain can be understood as a process of acquisition of new internal models of hidden causes of sensory input. The paper proposes how such models might emerge and develop over the course of human life by looking at different stages of development of bodily and extra-bodily self-representations. It argues that the self arises gradually in a series of discrete steps: from first-person multisensory representations of one’s body to third-person multisensory body representation, and from basic forms of the extended and social selves to progressively more complex forms of abstract self-representation. It discusses how each of them might emerge based on domain-general learning mechanisms, while also taking into account the potential role of innate representations. Finally it suggests how the conceptual structure of self-representation might inform the debate about the structure of self-consciousness.

The newly arisen theoretical research on the literary work category focuses mainly on the ,single work‘. This paper argues for the heuristic potential of the ,oeuvre‘ as another part of the work category. In addition to the usual aspect of a ,life’s work‘, the oeuvre includes diverse work complexes and work groupings that emerge on the production or reception side. The paper analyzes a dynamic structure of the oeuvre: fixed and variable arrangements, boundaries and dissolution of borders between single works by the same author. A work complex forms an intermediate stage and a link between ,single work‘ and ,oeuvre‘. It therefore has a special relevance for the semantic composition of the work category as a triad, the parts of which refer to each other: single work – work complex – oeuvre.

Introduction: Lactoperoxidase (LPO) is a member of mammalian heme peroxidase family and is an enzyme of innate immune system. It possesses a covalently linked heme prosthetic group (a derivative of protoporphyrin IX) in its active site. LPO catalyzes the oxidation of halides and pseudohalides in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and shows a broad range of antimicrobial activity. Methods: In this study, we have used two pharmaceutically important drug molecules, namely dapsone and propofol, which are earlier reported as potent inhibitors of LPO. Whereas the stereochemistry and mode of binding of dapsone and propofol to LPO is still not known because of the lack of the crystal structure of LPO with these two drugs. In order to fill this gap, we utilized molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies of LPO in native and complex forms with dapsone and propofol. Results: From the docking results, the estimated binding free energy (ΔG) of -9.25 kcal/mol (Ki = 0.16 μM) and -7.05 kcal/mol (Ki = 6.79 μM) was observed for dapsone, and propofol, respectively. The standard error of Auto Dock program is 2.5 kcal/mol; therefore, molecular docking results alone were inconclusive. Conclusion: To further validate the docking results, we performed MD simulation on unbound, and two drugs bounded LPO structures. Interestingly, MD simulations results explained that the structural stability of LPO-Propofol complex was higher than LPO-Dapsone complex. The results obtained from this study establish the mode of binding and interaction pattern of the dapsone and propofol to LPO as inhibitors.
