A double focusing magnetic spectrometer has been constructed for use with a field emission electron gun scanning microscope in order to study the electron energy loss mechanism in thin specimens. It is of the uniform field sector type with curved pole pieces. The shape of the pole pieces is determined by requiring that all particles be focused to a point at the image slit (point 1). The resultant shape gives perfect focusing in the median plane (Fig. 1) and first order focusing in the vertical plane (Fig. 2).

Recently an energy analyser of the uniform magnetic sector type has been installd in a 100KV microscope. This microscope can be used in the STEM mode. The sector is of conventional design (Fig. 1). The bending angle was chosen to be 90° for ease of construction. The bending radius (ρ) is 20 cm. and the object and image distances are 42.5 cm. and 30.0 cm. respectively.

In an assessment of the carbon footprint (CFP) of a tire product, embodied greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of its tread mold are usually disregarded due to the absence of available information. This study presents embodied GHG emissions of a winter tire tread mold and evaluates its significance. We also provide a comparative study between two types of mold, namely the sector and the element mold, which are not different in terms of the tread forming in the production process, but subject to the customer’s utilization. The assessment was performed according to the international ISO/DIS 14067 standard, requirements, and guidelines for the quantification of the CFP of products. Required input data of the processes were collected and allocated based on a tread mold production plant located in Thailand. Direct GHG emissions and indirect emissions were calculated according to the 2006 IPCC guidelines. In other indirect processes, secondary data from process-based and input-output-based data were assigned to match the best site specificity, and closer fuel mix in upstream inputs. The results obtained in this study show that the embodied GHG emissions were 5,033.36 kg CO2e for the sector mold, whereas 53.73% additional emissions were found in the dataset using the element mold. The embodied emissions estimated for the aluminum input were found to significantly influence the mold CFP. Disregarding the embodied GHG emissions during the production of a single conventional tire could result in an underestimation of 0.03% for the sector type and 0.05% for the element type. Furthermore, appropriate lifetime utilization of the tread mold could increase the contribution of the tread mold CFP.

Size distribution of positive and negative tellurium clusters in the size range from 2 to 56 atoms was investigated by secondary-ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Cluster ions were produced by the 12-keV Xe+ ions bombardment of a sample tellurium sheet and were mass-analyzed using sector-type double-focusing mass spectrometers. It was found that a discontinuous variation of cluster-ion intensity appeared at specific numbers of n. These numbers were 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, and 23 for positive clusters and 6, 10, 13, and 16 for negative clusters. The dissociation pattern was also investigated by an acceleration-voltage scanning method. It was found that Te2, Te5, and Te6 fragmentation events occurred at a large probability. Observation of specific fragmentation patterns suggested the existence of nonsequential fragment channels.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to assess travel insurance as a method of protection against the risk of sport tourism on the basis of a review of insurance products on the Polish and Croatian markets with emphasis on those prepared for practicing biking tourism. Method. A review of the literature and comparative analysis of the existing range of insurance products within both markets. Findings. The revue was focused on selected insurance products of leading insurance companies on the Polish and Croatian markets. The overview of available insurance products in the field of active tourism is an indication of effective protection against the risk for people taking up endeavors other than those which are considered everyday activities. Research and conclusion limitations. There is no definition of travel insurance in the Polish literature, but it is insurance aimed at satisfying the financial needs arising from the implementation of risk-taking activity for the entity. Empirical studies include leading insurers on the markets mentioned above within their scope of travel insurance offers for active sport tourism. Practical implications. Increasing the forethought of insurance for tourists through awareness of risk and the available insurance coverage. Originality. The paper concerns the important issue of protection against the risk in active sport tourism. It should be emphasized that the Croatian tourist market provides diversified sources of risk financing and insurance which is judged to be the most important method of financing risk in tourism. A comparative analysis of the Polish and Croatian was chosen due to the attractiveness of both countries in terms of tourism resources and intensive economic cooperation in the tourism sector.
