Quality management has evolved throughout time in ways that allowed companies to adapt quality practices and principles into their activities in order to provide better products/services to their customer. The latest trends point to the pivotal role that quality plays in the Industry 4.0 era, where it is expected to synergize with Industry 4.0 practices in order to ensure that not only products are built faster and cheaper but also that they can meet the quality expectations of the customers. This gave birth to the concept of Quality 4.0, a new way of managing quality which uses modern technologies such as: IoT, Blockchain, Big data, AI and sensors in order to gather relevant information, monitor process performance and act preemptively in regard to the quality of the process output. An issue that emerges however, is identifying the relevant data and ways to manage it as this is considered to be a major obstacle in the implementation of Quality 4.0 practices. The research focuses on providing the foundational base for Knowledge management practices of companies looking to embrace Quality 4.0 to ensure that these companies use relevant data in their daily activities.

Introduction: The bibliographic review that is presented is the result of the research “Open Innovation and Knowledge Management” developed at the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, during the year 2019. Objective: To demonstrate a Knowledge management and Industry 4.0 model that consolidates innovation processes in Colombian organizations. Methodology: A systematic mapping of information was developed, focused on the academic databases of the publications that link the concepts of Knowledge management, Industry 4.0 and Open innovation in the period 2016-2019. Conclusions: Innovation is a key factor for organizations, in particular to achieve competitiveness. For this, it is necessary to have inter-institutional and intra-institutional knowledge management models, characterized by the decentralized exchange of information in the context of Industry 4.0. Therefore, it is necessary that the governance of an organization understand and facilitate the processes of opening and exchanging knowledge and information. Originality: This model allows for the convergence of different models of administration and organization management, which must be co-managers of resource management and human talent. Limitations: The model is developed from the literature review and from the experiences presented in these investigations, implying that a second stage is necessary for validation with experts.

The conceptual model proposed in this study is used to serve a guide for Industry 4.0 to understand the effect of GIC (green intellectual capital) and GKM (green knowledge management) on sustainability. Green challenge in Industry 4.0 has increasingly become a hot topic in both academia and practice. Among the Industry 4.0 topics, digital chain monitoring has a great impact on the performance of the company. The study of the industrial digital chain is a great green challenge in the 21st century in order to understand and manage the flows of green information. Knowledge of the human, relational, and structural (including technological aspects) will help to better understand and management the effects of traceability on sustainability. Several of the concepts and variables in the suggested model can easily be managed by organizations if they carefully measure their green intangible nature with smart sensors.

The Impact

The existing business models essential for the creation of consumer value and, consequently, business competitiveness are now undergoing a transformation. Brand-new technological developments based on network integration, intelligent technology and flexible automation are becoming increasingly relevant: additional competitive opportunities appear, and knowledge management and intellectual capital management are becoming key business processes. When developing a strategic vision, it is important for companies to pick the relevant data out of the information flow about the external and internal environment and convert it into organizational knowledge, which is a core management resource. The paper analyses the experience of Russian and foreign companies in the introduction of scalable models focused on the widespread use of Industry 4.0 and establishes the principles and strategies of knowledge management that allow these companies to maintain their competitive positions in a strategic perspective. The theory of knowledge management and resource approach constitute the methodological framework of the present study. The general scientific methods of logical-structural analysis and systematization, as well as the contingency case study method were applied. The information base encompasses the case studies of six companies, retrieved from publicly available sources. The findings of the empirical research prove the feasibility of applying a situational approach to knowledge management: companies use different strategies for accumulating and sharing knowledge according to their maturity level and the area of implementation of Industry 4.0. Based on the results obtained, the authors develop a situational approach to the strategic knowledge management of companies that successfully apply the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The theoretical and practical significance of the study lies in identifying common approaches to knowledge management under various conditions, which can be used to create the strategic vision of managers involved in the key decision-making process in companies.

The main aim of this draft paper is to discuss the progress towards Industry 4.0 in organizations, through the lenses of management tools utilization. Our discussion is based on the cognitions that management tools support organizational working under Industry 4.0 circumstances. According to the management tools utilization we argue about the level of Industry 4.0 implementation in organizations. Based on the current level of management tools utilization, it is evident that in the forefront are management tools, which are not tightly associated with supporting organizational working under Industry 4.0 circumstances, like outsourcing, benchmarking, knowledge management, etc, while commonly emphasized management tools for supporting organizational working under Industry 4.0 circumstances, are not in the forefront of use, like lean production, RFID, six-sigma, etc. Results allow us to argue that organizations are at the early stages of Industry 4.0 implementation in organizations. The paper offers some possible reasons for such state. This paper should also trigger questions, how to increase the level of Industry 4.0 implementation in organizations.
