The present study describes a 29 years old patient diagnosed with aseptic osteonecrosis with multiple localization occurred after a corticoid treatment for chronic toxic hepatitis. The clinical and para-clinical examinations determined the diagnosis of Wilson disease and avascular necrosis with multiple localizations. The evolution of the disease was favourable following the surgical treatment consisting of bilateral total hip arthroplasty with cementless prosthesis, hemi-arthroplasty of the left shoulder with cementless prosthesis, orthotopic hepatic transplantation with an entire liver from donor in cerebral death and immunosuppressive, anticoagulant, antiretroviral and gastro-protective treatment. There is an increase of the number of patients undergoing a glucocorticoids treatment for several months, years or lifelong periods. This type of treatment increases the risk of osteonecrosis depending on the dosage and the duration of the treatment.

Abstract By means of laboratory experiments it is shown that the penetration depth of a treatment of concrete with Silane depends strongly on the duration of suction and on the moisture content of the concrete. The necessary duration of suction can be estimated for any required penetration depth.

Wheat seedlings were treated at different temperatures and for various periods of time with a cold-protective substance, composed of a mixture of glycerol, dimethylsulfoxide, and saccharose. When the treatment was done at 20 °C, slight ultrastructural changes appeared in leaf primordia as soon as day 1. Thus numbers of lipid globules increased significantly. When the treatment period was increased to 4 days, numbers of starch grains increased, and there was a marked enlargement of mitochondria and plasts. When the treatment was done at 2 °C, cytoplasmic alterations occurred later than at 20 °C. After a 4-day treatment, they were similar to changes induced at 20 °C. When the treatment period was increased to 12 days, dictyosomes were markedly altered. They clustered close to the nucleus in two or three groups and gave rise to numerous pale vesicles with various shapes and sizes. Around each cluster of such vesicles, there gathered many endoplasmic reticulum vesicles and other organelles (mitochondria, plasts, microbodies, vacuoles). A further cooling of 1 °C/min, down to −15 or −30 °C, enhanced these phenomena. After the seedlings were warmed up to 20 °C in distilled water, the changes induced by the frost-protective treatment and then by freezing were shown to be reversible. [Journal translation]

Abstract A growing number of effective cancer therapies is associated with cardiovascular (CV) toxicities including myocardial injury or dysfunction, leading to reduced ventricular function, and increased risk of heart failure. As the timing of administration of cancer treatment is known, the potential for risk stratification pre-treatment, and appropriate surveillance and monitoring during treatment, and intervention with cardio-protective treatment strategies in patients exhibiting early evidence of CV toxicity is an appealing clinical strategy. The field of cardio-oncology has developed, and the application of monitoring strategies using CV biomarkers and CV imaging has been to focus of many studies and is now implemented in dedicated cardio-oncology services supporting oncology centres. In this article, we review the background and rationale for monitoring, the different options and their strengths, weaknesses and where they are helpful in specific cardiotoxic cancer therapies, and the impact in cardio-oncology care.
