AbstractThis chapter describes the quantitative approaches for assessing various aspects of digital transformation from the joint research and development project #ko.vernetzt. In an application-oriented case study approach, the operationalization of a maturity model of digital transformation for educational organizations (MMEO) and the design and implementation of a multi-perspective evaluation concept are outlined. While the MMEO provides a state perspective on the digital transformation of an educational organization and its employees, the evaluation concept aims at tracing developments of media-related professional competencies. MMEO has been implemented in a study with N = 222 participants, while N = 59 learners were subject to the evaluation polls. The results provide the necessary evidence for implementing and continuously improving a qualification program in the regarded research context. However, the methodology can also be transferred to other organizations in the education sector and beyond.

As a part of the Strategy for modernization, customs administrations face a need for the introduction of new communication information technologies (ICTs) that builds on a long and successful European history on technology and innovation. Hence, apart from compliance of legislation that prescribes customs procedures, customs authorities face important decisions regarding design and implementation. In that context, this empirical research explores the extent to what digitalization of the Customs Administration of Serbia can improve the customs transit performances, in terms of enforcement of trading policy, without applying certain managerial tools, such as process thinking in lean innovation. The final data analysis of the research indicates that managing the organization through the functional units, rather than the processes, and without applying lean principles to the digital transformation initiative would not completely standardize the customs transit procedure.

While many Software Engineering (SE) and Computer Science (CS) textbooks make use of case studies to introduce difference concepts and methods, the case studies introduced by these texts focus on a specific life-development phase or a particular topic within software engineering object-oriented design and implementation or requirements analysis and specification. Moreover, these case studies usually do not come with instructor guidelines on how to adopt the introduced material to the instructor’s teaching style or to the particular level of the class or students in the class. The DigitalHome Case Study aims at addressing these shortcomings by providing a comprehensive set of artifacts associated with the full software development life-cycle. The project provides an extensive set of case study modules with exercises for teaching different topics in software engineering and computer science, as well as guidance for instructors on how to use these case modules. In this chapter, the authors motivate the use of the case study approach in teaching SE and CS concepts. They provide a description of the DigitalHome case study and the associated artifacts and case modules. The authors also report on the use of the developed material.

The purpose of this chapter is to illustrate the application of advanced data analytics in the domain of strategic procurement and its effects on processes, people, and on the procurement business model itself. Advanced data analytics are generally accepted as being one of the key enablers for organisations to build their capabilities to adapt quickly and navigate through volatile business circumstances successfully. Strategic procurement is in a pivotal position in a network of external suppliers and internal stakeholders, and thus ideally positioned to benefit from the introduction of advanced data analytics. However, to date, the application of these technologies has been limited, and clear evidence of benefits delivery is yet to be demonstrated. This chapter draws upon research results from a detailed case study in the aviation industry to assess the benefits of advanced data analytics in the strategic procurement function and puts forward a maturity model of relevance to both researchers and procurement professionals.

The design and implementation of a globally integrated e-HRM system within a multinational corporation (MNC) requires different parties to reach some form of agreement on which HR processes must be standardised and which must be locally adapted. In this respect, the IT-based integration of HRM presents an intriguing setting in which to study micro-political behaviour during HRM integration, that is, how parties promote their own interests and the strategies they use during negotiations. Accordingly, the study’s aims were to identify those issues which generated the greatest degree of conflict during the IT-based integration of HRM, the key actors involved and the resources that were deployed during negotiations. A longitudinal, in-depth case study approach was used, and followed the integration of a global e-HRM system in the Finnish subsidiary of a large European-owned MNC over a period of nearly two years. Qualitative data was collected via semi-structured interviews with key subsidiary HR personnel and was complemented with company documentation. The findings indicate that the key areas of conflict were system design, the standardised use of English, and grey areas of HR policy. Three key parties were identified as being involved in subsequent negotiations. These parties utilised a range of negotiation resources including business case logic, technical know-how, internal benchmarking, local constraints and ignorance.

A case study approach was used to determine the effects of task demands, customer needs, and organizational environment on the recommendations for ergonomic redesign in a large pension and insurance organization. The organization was planning a major renovation of workstations and requested assistance with design and implementation. Three job positions were studied using semi-structured interviews, job observations, and measurements of workstations and the office environment. It was found that most work surfaces and chairs were inadequate for VDT tasks, reception counters presented problems for both the employees and claimants, and the use of shared VDTs on a swivel base resulted in eyestrain and poor postures. In addition, there was inadequate storage space and poor housekeeping for all three jobs, as well as lighting and noise problems throughout the office environment. Recommendations were made for new workstations, with pilot testing to be conducted before full-scale implementation. Although existing workstations were inadequate, it was found that task demands were of greatest concern to the employees.

Two of the pillars of contemporary corporate governance are examined in this article – disclosure and transparency. Though an interdisciplinary approach, knowledge from different fields of the economic science are brought together in order better clarify the interdependence and the level of interaction between these. Knowledge traditionally considered to be part of the Corporate Governance (disclosure and transparency and what is most modern nowadays - ESG) is examined form the perspective of the governance bodies and other stakeholders, taking into account tools from the fields of sustainable development, project management and marketing. The processes of digitalization also find their reflection in the current article. The case study approach is used to illustrate the interdisciplinary interaction.

The rapid development of technology and information and communication has a direct impact on the business of the Indonesian people. SMEs are one of the pillars in the economic sector in Indonesia. However, logistics has always been an obstacle to business growth in the SME sector. In Indonesia, logistics costs are still high compared to GDP, which is the background of problems that can be solved by implementing logistics 4.0. This literature will provide input for SME entrepreneurs, who will carry out digital transformation in the logistics sector of their business. The inputs that will be given include the importance of digital transformation in the logistics sector and the benefits that will be provided as a result of digital transformation. By using the digital maturity model for logistics 4.0 concept as a research method, an SME will be able to find its current state and also be able to determine strategies that will help SMEs go to their intended future state. Various analyzes will be carried out to determine the state of the SME business, so that appropriate digital transformation can be carried out regarding the SME logistics current state.

The article presents findings from an exploratory study investigating the nature of collaborative research and development in creative industries. Participants in the study are two creative SMEs with extensive experience of participating in collaborative projects. A collective case study approach is adopted with data collected on the factors impinging on the effectiveness of such collaborations. Findings are presented at the macro and micro levels of such collaborations. The paper concludes with a summary of some of the challenges faced by small creative SMEs when collaborating with other organizations during the research and development process.
