In the corporate world, the importance of corporate governance is gearing up day by day. As per the new regulations in India every company has the responsibility to disclose required information to the stakeholders whenever they want. The seven pillars of good corporate governance include Accountability, fairness, transparency, assurance, leadership, and stakeholder management. Among the seven pillars, disclosure practices are related to corporate transparency. Governance disclosure practices are one of the important pillars of good corporate governance which add value to the governance. Since the fiscal deficit faced by the Indian economy in 1991 Indian companies also urge good corporate governance. This paper aims to study the corporate governance disclosure practices in the top five companies in the Indian telecom sector. For the study, five year’s annual reports of the selected five companies have been analyzed and for evaluating the corporate governance disclosure practices an assessment model has been adopted. The company having the highest average score of corporate governance disclosure is considered as the company has good corporate governance and vice versa.

Purpose This study aims to explore the extent of voluntary corporate governance disclosure in the annual reports of banks in the UAE, operating in an emerging economy in the Gulf Cooperation Council region. It also examines the effect of this non-financial disclosure on bank performance by differentiating conventional and Islamic banks. Design/methodology/approach This study applies content analysis to explore the extent of voluntary corporate governance disclosure using data collected from the annual reports of all the banks traded on the UAE financial markets from 2003 through 2020. It further examines the potential effect of voluntary disclosure on bank performance using dynamic panel data regressions. Findings The results indicate a low level of voluntary corporate governance disclosure in the annual reports for most disclosure indices. However, conventional and Islamic banks do not differ significantly. Additionally, the results of the robust dynamic panel data from the two-step generalized method of moments system estimation confirm that voluntary corporate governance disclosure does not affect bank performance significantly. Practical implications The findings of this study would benefit the central bank and lawmakers in the UAE in developing a framework for appropriate voluntary disclosure and enhancing the corporate governance framework to improve the quality of annual reports. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature on the extent of corporate governance disclosure, as well as its association with bank performance in an emerging economy by differentiating between conventional and Islamic banks.

This study aims to show that there is a positive relationship between Islamic intellectual capital, corporate governance, disclosure of corporate social responsibility on the performance of maqashid sharia, and this study wants to show that reputation strengthens this positive relationship. This study's sample consists of 33 annual reports from 11 Islamic banking companies in Indonesia for the 2016-2018 period, chosen using the purposive sampling method. This study was tested by using the Moderated Regression Analysis test. The results of this study indicate that Islamic intellectual capital, corporate governance, disclosure of corporate social responsibility have a negative effect on the performance of Islamic maqashid. The role of reputation can not increase the relationship of Islamic intellectual capital to the performance of maqashid sharia. Reputation also can not increase the relationship of disclosure of corporate social responsibility to the performance of maqashid sharia, but reputation has been proven to improve the relationship of corporate governance to the performance of maqashid sharia. The results of this study are input for the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) as regulators to monitor the performance of Islamic financial institutions in order to protect the public interest as a whole.

Corporate disclosure is a key mechanism of corporate governance. This study examined the effect of corporate governance disclosure (CGD) on the financial performance of commercial banks listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. Based on the provisions of the Code of Corporate Governance for Public Companies in Nigeria, 2011 and the Code of Corporate Governance for Banks and Discount Houses 2014, the study developed a disclosure checklist and employed content analysis technique to extract corporate governance (CG) from 78 annual reports of 13 Nigerian commercial banks from 2011 to 2016. The study trichotomized CGD into those relating to the board of directors, risk framework, and whistleblowing policy. The results of the hypothesized relationships showed a positive and significant association between CGD and the banks' financial performance, with a positive effect of CGD on the board of directors and whistleblowing policy. However, the study did not find a significant association between CGD of risk management framework and the banks' financial performance. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a broader understanding of the effect of CGD on banks' financial performance. The development of a disclosure checklist based on the regulators’ codes of corporate governance is a useful addition to the literature.

The paper aims at investigating how CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) disclosure affect the brand value of a sample of Interbrand companies. Empirically results show that the brand value is positively related to the environmental disclosure, social disclosure, and ESG disclosure, whereas no significant correlation has been found for the governance disclosure. This study provides new evidence to the growing body of literature that identifies CSR as a means of improving the company’s brand value and can represent a starting point in the discussion on the reputational benefits of CSR practices.
