Online Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending marketplaces allow individuals to lend and borrow directly among each other without the mediation of a creditor bank institution. Prior literature has examined online P2P, but has largely been limited to the Western context. This paper thus explores how social capital and other factors influences online P2P lending in the U.S. and China. Based on the archival data of Prosper and PPDai, we compare market outcome of two online P2P lending marketplaces in the U.S. and China. The empirical results show that social capital is not equally important in different online communities. Social capital seems to be more influential for likelihood of getting funded in China than in the U.S. In contrast, social capital has influence on interest rate in the U.S. only. The authors' study thus extends current understanding about how social capital influences online communities to a global perspective.

This study will relate to the concept of sustainable development where the emphasis is not only on economic growth alone, but on socio-cultural factors that lead to the wise use of the environment. This research traces various forms of local wisdom as social capital for paddy rice farmers in Deli SerdangDistrict. Besides as a form of preserving the environment wisely. But also as one of the solutions in solving human and environmental problems. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. This method and approach was chosen because in carrying out the documentation it is necessary to have a holistic description of a study. The results showed that paddy rice farmers in Deli SerdangDistrict had combined forms of local wisdom with technological advancements as social capital in managing agricultural resources. This is shown in the process of farming that still uses traditional methods but is also supported by modern farming tools. In general, the form of local wisdom is demonstrated through the revitalization of mutual cooperation values, growing the collectivity of farmers, and the implementation of simple rituals as a form of gratitude. Therefore, the preservation of various forms of local wisdom with a global perspective is one of the social capital and references in improving the quality of farmer’slife in particular, and the development of Indonesian agriculture in general.

Collectively the synergy of the course, the type and amount of learning and the type of community built in the learning environment can create a healthy or toxic environment. Academic and nonacademic indicators must be incorporated into the measurement of excellence in the learning environment because these strategies are required to be competitive in the job market and because it is the right thing to do. Strategies to support a global perspective through venues of economic, psychological, social and human capital towards a greater good are provided in this chapter.
