In this way, we seek to answer whether there are epistemic elements present in the referred social practice, which support the condition of category for the analysis of educational phenomena. The considerations present in the article are part of a broader research, which consisted of bibliographic and documentary studies, on the movements and schools involved. There was also an empirical field, two schools located in rural settlements, one at the state and one at the municipal level. In dealing with schools, participatory research and field notebooks were used as part of the methodology. The results are exposed from the political, collective, socio-cultural and pedagogical dimensions of the school's occupation. It is noted that the school occupation contains elements that support them as pedagogy, a category of analysis of educational practice, both as a social movement, as, in potential terms, the Brazilian public school system. Keywords: School Occupation. This paper studies the so-called Take the Best (TTB) and the other two related heuristics which are Take the last (TTL) and the Minimalist heuristics to collect more evidence on these heuristics and then make comparison on performance of these heuristics’ potential users who have different degree of knowledge. People actually adhere to the recognition heuristics (RH) so often when facing inferential choice between a recognized object and a novel one. It is a main purpose of our empirical field study to look for evidence on what decision makers really do to arrive at their final choice in cases where both objects in the choice task are recognized. Will they still stick to recognition cue, or will they follow TTB or TTL or the Minimalist heuristic or will they resort to other type of strategies? Our results are somehow ambiguous. In sum, the cues the participants really picked up from their minds when taking the task and revealed by themselves in the interviews are more diverse and complicated than the anticipated ones.

The chapter interrogates the explicit and implicit perception of health and well-being among the Jats of Western Uttar Pradesh by using anthropological life cycle approach. The research combined village ethnography and empirical field work to discuss their behavioural choices that they make to maintain good spiritual, mental and physical well-being. For the purpose of the study, both primary and secondary data have been used. Taking a village as a unit is a generally accepted way of the doing research in the social anthropology, and the author has used this approach to gain the overview of health, well-being, wellness, and belief pattern as perceived by the villagers.

Glacial geomorphologists combine two geomorphological approaches—process studies, including empirical field measurement and laboratory experiments, and form analogy, or reconstructive geomorphology—in an attempt to make sense of the vast array of glacial depositional landforms created by the leaky, restless, and constantly shuffling conveyor belt or ‘dirt machine’ that is the glacier. ‘Landforms from the restless conveyor belt’ describes the range of glacigenic features that are spatially defined ‘sediment–landform associations’, and which are categorized by a process-form-based framework. These include subglacial footprints, ice-marginal moraines, supraglacial associations, glacifluvial assemblages, and subaqueous assemblages.

AbstractProtected areas are intended to conserve biodiversity by restricting human activities within their boundaries. However, such restrictions are difficult to enforce fully in many tropical parks. Improving regulatory enforcement requires an understanding of prevailing challenges to detection and sanctioning activities. Drawing from empirical field research in 15 Colombian parks, I show that current enforcement efforts may be insufficient to deter most priority threats. For long-term infractions, such as agriculture, livestock grazing, and construction, sanctioning violators is challenging, whereas for furtive infractions, such as logging and hunting, it may be difficult to detect violators. Investment in staff, equipment and infrastructure may fail to increase enforcement capacity and yield positive conservation outcomes unless accompanied by resolution of land tenure, clarification of use rights, improved patrolling strategies and protection of park guards.
