Palabras ClavePlanificación urbana, Urbanismo, Relaciones Espaciales, Territorio. Abstract Urban planning as a discipline has been used around the world since long time ago; obviously it´s processes have improved and it has evolved not only technically but conceptually. However, the accelerated growth process of the cities is producing an every time bigger breach with the planning processes, that hardly produce on time policies or urban actions to apply on the territories. The appearance of the Geographic Information Systems has offered a new variety of methods and tools that according with the strong urban growth, has helped to improve the planning culture reducing the duration of its analyzing processes, the data acquisition, and mainly the decision making. In that order, this paper set up some of the application methods of GIS in Urban Planning, based on the deep relation that exist between the basic components of the first and the work methodologies of the second one, and using examples about some of the practical uses that may have this new technology at the urbanism field.KeywordsUrban Planning, Urbanism, Spatial Relations, Territory.

Geographic information systems can be defined as a intelligent tool, to which it relates techniques for the implementation of processes such as the introduction, recording, storage, handling, processing and generation of spatial data. Use of GIS in urban planning helps and guides planners for an orderly development of settlements and infrastructure facilities within and outside urban areas. Continued growth of the population in urban centers generates the need for expansion of urban space, for its planning in terms of physical and social infrastructures in the service of the community, based on the principles of sustainable development. In addition urbanization is accompanied with numerous structural transformations and functional cities, which should be evaluated in spatial context, to be managed and planned according to the principles of sustainable development. Urban planning connects directly with land use and design of the urban environment, including physical and social infrastructure in service of the urban community, constituting a challenge to global levels. Use of GIS in this field is a different approach regarding the space, its development and design, analysis and modeling of various processes occurring in it, as well as interconnections between these processes or developments in space.

Geographic  Information  systems  are  used  widely  for Tourism  administration  in  several  countries,  but  not especially true in Kerala scenario. This paper attempts to present a GIS model for tourism administration in Kerala. Various  applications  of  Tourism  based  GIS  in  the international  arena  have  been  examined  in  this  paper. Data collected from different sources reveals the present status of Tourism GISs world over. The study focuses on areas where GIS can be applied in Kerala Tourism and gives outputs that can be generated using the proposed model.  Tourism  is  essentially  a  cartographic phenomenon.  In  this  context  this  paper  assumes importance as various devices, both wired and wireless are  increasingly  used  to  accesses  cartographic information.  With  internet  becoming  an  unavoidable component of modern day life, map based information is the need of the hour. A web based GIS will benefit Kerala tourism in the coming years. The model proposed in this paper can act as a foundation for building a web based GIS for Kerala tourism.

Indonesia is a country that has a high potential for tsunami events. One of these areas is the western part of Serang Regency. Currently, the evolution of remote sensing technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be utilized to assist mitigation efforts. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential for tsunamis and provide a tsunami hazard map as one of the efforts to mitigate disasters based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) based on guidelines from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). The method used in this research is a mathematical method developed by Berryman-2006. This method is a simple but fairly accurate method for estimating areas potentially affected by a tsunami. Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data and the shapefile of the earth's appearance sourced from the Indonesian Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) are the main data used. The results of the analysis show that the potential tsunami hazard in the western part of Serang Regency consists of 3 classes, namely low, medium, and high classes which are dominated by high hazard classes with a total area of 377.64 ha affected. This tsunami hazard map can then be used as one of the information bases in disaster mitigation planning in Serang Regency.

During the past decades, geographic information systems (GIS) have developed massively to be used in various fields. In this regard, within the urban planning and geodesign fields, practitioners, urban planners, developers, designers, and scientists started using GIS as a tool to digitalize and analyze reality. Hence, in this research, besides an introduction to GIS-based modelling and geodesign, the authors analyze an example of the “Filder” area in Stuttgart city based on a set of pre-identified parameters. This case study demonstrates how GIS can be used to avoid the employment of complex methods and tools.
