In order to design a mechanical pump that can satisfy the special requirements of the LBE test loop, structural and hydraulic design ideas were discussed in this paper. A new vertical centrifugal submerged pump was proposed, including installation and hydraulic model. Based on the provided parameter, hydraulic design of the pump has been done by CFD method. Velocity caused erosion problem was considered primarily in the design process. It is helpful for the future design of pumps in various loops and ADS.

Dynamically transforming mission contexts in conjunction with ever-increasing budgetary constraints provides great impetus for the Department of Defense (DoD) to identify resilient systems early in the design process. The engineered resilient systems (ERS) community of interest (COI) research efforts focus on identifying and quantifying methods to perform systems engineering analysis in a model-based physics-driven environment. Research conducted has approached resiliency from various perspectives, including inherent resilience, mission and platform resilience, and value-driven resilient tradespace. This article examines resilience in an ERS context and presents multiple perspectives of resilience for consideration when developing modeling and simulation platforms to support analysis of systems under acquisition consideration.

According to the characteristics of the design process of top-down collaborative assembly design, process planning dynamic model based on HOOPN (hierarchical object-oriented Petri-net) is constructed for top-down collaborative assembly design. The outside and inside task dependent relationships among the task groups include parallel, sequence and coupling are implemented. The definitions of attribute for each element and the activation rules are presented for Petri-net. The fuzzy overall evaluation model is applied for risk evaluation of design process, and the local and global risk level is determined. The whole process planning is adjusted and controlled based on special risk decision-making mechanism.

Participatory design is a technique which is being used by system designers to involve the end users and product owners throughout the design process. Even though utilizing this approach brings customers to the design process, implementing it requires a budget, a place, time, and other resources. This chapter demonstrates a model-based approach to facilitate the selection of interviews for each design phase such as listing elements for the interface, choosing location for components, making decision for the general look of the component, finally making the component interactable. Interface designers can use the model to choose different type of interview method for different design phases such as interface components, sketching, lo-fi prototyping and hi-fi prototyping, according to their resources. The research focus is on four different participatory design interview method, which are GUI-ii face-to-face, GUI-ii screen-sharing, GUI-ii Ozlab, and traditional face-to-face interview.
