The goal of this contribution is to provide a summary report on the Extraordinary Scientific Roundtable on COVID-19 and Food Safety co-organized by the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) and the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST).  The meeting provided a valuable recount of this coronavirus, particularly that the virus is not transmitted by food. On this basis, so far there is no evidence that COVID-19 has any effect on food safety and security as well as on food bioactives. The challenges faced by the food industry during the pandemic period as well as potential post-pandemic time opportunities were discussed.

ABSTRACT A review is presented of a report published by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology and entitled Foodborne Pathogens: Risks and Consequences. The risk assessment approach provided the framework to define the hazard and occurrence of foodborne disease as well as the estimated economic consequences. Fifteen recommendations are detailed, including that food safety policy should be based on risk assessment, that control practices should be applied from food source to consumption, that and fundamental and applied food safety research is needed.

The interaction of tris-dibenzoylmethanate Eu(III) with dimethylamine and ammonia vapors was investigated. It was found that when vapors of aqueous solutions of analytes are exposed to tris-dibenzoylmethanate Eu(III) impregnated into the SiO2 matrix, an optical response is observed in the form of an increase in the luminescence intensity of Eu(III). Changes in the luminescence spectra and luminescence excitation of this sensor are analyzed, both under the quenching action of water vapor and under the sensitizing action of analyte vapors. The main points recorded in the excitation spectra are noted, which are important for understanding the processes occurring in the near environment of the lanthanide center. The luminescent chemosensor is promising for creating sensors for detecting ammonia and amines in food safety control and environmental monitoring. Shishov A.S., Mirochnik A.G.

Labeling of drugs is an art of expressing information, instructions, caution or warning etc. in both word and pictorial form which must be readable without magnifying glass or visualizing aids. Font size and background of the label play an important role in reading the label considering the level of literacy in India. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) framed a rule in the year 2011 to improve labeling of foods in the light of the new advancement of Science and Technology.(1) This study observed that manner of labeling and labeling criteria of drugs remain unaltered in comparison to foods or other food products.
