Extended nonlinear analytical modeling and analysis of compound parallelogram mechanisms are conducted in this paper to consider the effect of the initial internal axial force. The nonlinear analytical model of a compound basic parallelogram mechanism (CBPM) is first derived incorporating the initial internal axial force. The stiffness equations of compound multibeam parallelogram mechanisms (CMPMs) are then followed. The analytical maximal stress under the primary actuation force only is also derived to determine the maximal primary motion (motion range). The influence of initial internal axial forces on the primary motion/stiffness is further quantitatively analyzed by considering different slenderness ratios, which can be employed to consider active displacement preloading control and/or thermal effects. The criterion that the primary stiffness may be considered “constant” is defined and the initial internal axial force driven by a temperature change is also formulated. A physical preloading system to control the initial internal axial force is presented and testing results of the object CBPM are compared with theoretical ones.

The present study deals with static modeling and analysis of a novel electro-pneumatic braided muscle (EPBM) actuator. The EPBM actuator is a hybrid McKibben-type actuator, made of a dielectric polymeric bladder enclosed in a braided mesh sleeve. A continuum mechanics-based electromechanical model is developed to predict the response of the actuator for a combined pressure and voltage loading. The model also incorporates braid-to-braid frictional effects. The model agrees well with existing experimental results for the special case of zero input voltage. Parametric studies are subsequently performed for varying braid angle, input pressure, and voltage. Finally, the model is utilized to study the impact of fiber-reinforcement in the bladder on the actuator performance.

This paper presents the static modeling and analysis of a novel cylindrical tube actuator subjected to a rotation about longitudinal axis with an internally applied air pressure under an electromagnetic field. The current tube actuator belongs to a smart actuator category and is made of an electro-magneto-active polymer filled with a particular volume fraction of suitable fillers. A continuum mechanics-based electro-magneto-mechanical model is developed to predict the response of the actuator for a combined pressure and electromagnetic field loading. To validate the same, the model is compared with the outputs of an existing spring roll actuator. Parametric studies are subsequently performed for varying input pressure, electric field, magnetic field, fillers content, and actuator’s rotational speed. The output sensitivity in terms of strain intensity at inner and outer surfaces of the actuator is also checked at different controlling inputs. In addition, various electro-magneto-mechanical instability curves are drawn to examine the critical inflation of the tube actuator. In general, the developed model provides initial steps toward the modern actuator designs for applications where a precise control with high load-carrying capability of the actuator plays a significant role.

The designs of automotive suspension system are aiming to avoid vibration generated by road condition interference to the driver. This final project is about a quarter car modeling with simulation modeling and analysis of Two-Mass modeling. Both existing and new modeling are being compared with additional spring in the sprung mass system. MATLAB program is developed to analyze using a state space model. The program developed here can be used for analyzing models of cars and vehicles with 2DOF. The quarter car modelling is basically a mass spring damping system with the car serving as the mass, the suspension coil as the spring, and the shock absorber as the damper. The existing modeling is well-known model for simulating vehicle suspension performance. The spring performs the role of supporting the static weight of the vehicle while the damper helps in dissipating the vibrational energy and limiting the input from the road that is transmitted to the vehicle. The performance of modified modelling by adding extra spring in the sprung mass system provides more comfort to the driver. Later on this project there will be comparison graphic which the output is resulting on the higher level of damping system efficiency that leads to the riding quality.
