We present a geographic information system (GIS) framework to classify stream habitats and provide fish distribution predictions comprehensively at the landscape scale. Stream segments were classified into one of eighteen habitat types using three landscape attributes: stream size (three categories), stream quality (three categories), and water quality (two categories). An extensive literature search was undertaken to classify fish species into the same eighteen habitat types based on preferences for the three landscape attributes. We tested our framework in 39 sites throughout the upper Allegheny River basin in western New York. No difference was detected between observed and predicted numbers of fish species among stream habitats. Further, field collected bankfull width measurements, stream quality ratings, and water quality sampling results were largely consistent with predicted values. The habitat type expected to have the greatest fish species richness was large streams or small rivers with intact stream quality and suitable water quality. Our framework is rapidly applied, comprehensive, inexpensive, and built on widely available data thereby offering an efficient alternative to traditional field-based efforts for regional habitat classification and fish distribution prediction.

Study on biodiversity and distribution of fish fry in some type of habitats of Batanghari River basin, Jambi was conducted to observe the kind of fish species, habitat, and the distribution. Location of the experiment were Batanghari River in Kodya Jambi (Teluk Lake and Buluran Kenali Lake and Kabupaten Batanghari (Terap River, Lubuk Ruso River, and Pijoan River). The study used survey method for every lowest fluktuation water. Larva and seeds fish were collected from fishermen and identified. For larvae were collected and held in aquaria or in hapas in lake before identified. The results show that 90 species seed fish were collected, there are 44 genus, 18 familiy, 5 sub ordo from Ordo Perciformes (Percoidei, Gobioidei, Anabantoidei, Channoidei, dan Mastacembeloidei) and 6 Ordo (Osteoglosiformes, Cypriniformes, Siluriformes, Perciformes Cyprinodontiformes, dan Tetraodontiformes), about 40 species dominated by Cyprinidae. Water quality in location was good for hight water fluctuation and bad for lowest water fluctuation. Four habitats of seed fish were not permanent habitat and in bad condition water quality, seed fish were migrating out of the floodplain and leaved for up stream of Batanghari River.

Abstract This study was conducted for the purpose of estimating the soil and water quality of the Gharraf River Basin in the north of Dhi Qar Governorate using geomatics techniques represented by geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS) and positioning systems (GNSS). Which is about (90 km) from the city center. The chemical analyzes of the water samples showed that the degree of interaction was between (7.84-7.7) and the electrical conductivity (dS.m¯1.1-1.05), and the total dissolved substances were between (1106-1051ppm), and the mathematical statistical relationships were weakly correlated with the ratios of the visible space bands. pH, electrical conductivity and total dissolved materials. Calcium ratios in the study area ranged between (ppm 47.4-107) and there was a significant correlation with the range (B/R + B) with a value of (R2 = 0.51), and the results showed the ratios of magnesium in the study area between (ppm 9.67 - 26.61.) Between it and the band ratio (B/R + B)), a correlation relationship with a value of (R2=0.525), potassium recorded an average between (3.1-ppm 5.5), and there was a significant correlation between it and the band ratio (B/R +R) and it reached (R2=0.665). ), found a statistical relationship between sodium and the ratio of the band (B/R + R)) and a significant correlation was recorded with a value of (R2 = 0.527). - 102.52) And there was a correlation between the presence of chloride and the ratio of the range (B/NIR + G) as it was recorded (R2 = 0.593), the bicarbonate recorded ratios between (ppm 1.8-2.7), and there was a statistical relationship between the bicarbonate and the ratio of the range (C / R). ) amounted to (R2 = 0.573), nitrate values were recorded in the study area between (4 - 3.45 ppm) and there was a significant correlation between them and the range (B5) as it reached (R2 = 0.581), sulfate values were recorded between (207.25 - 277.5 ppm) and through Statistical analysis found that there is a correlation between The presence of sulfate with the ratio (C + B + G + R + NIR) which amounted to (R2 = 0.596), the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) was calculated, as its values ranged between (3.192 - 0.147) and most of the statistical relationships were weakly related to the spatial ratios and were gradually The hardness values in the study area are between (99.7 - 198.1)(

The aim of this study was to provide the first account of fish and macroinvertebrate communities in a heavily degraded river basin in the Czech Republic. Fish and macrozoobenthos were surveyed at 18 sites in the Bílina River and 11 sites in tributary streams during June–July 2007. Fish were sampled by electrofishing and macrozoobenthos were collected by kick-sampling using a sweep net. The composition of macroinvertebrate assemblages in headwater and reference sites in the upper Bílina River indicated clean water with saprobic index (SI) 1.31–1.43 followed by a transitional stretch downstream the Kyjická reservoir (SI 2.05–2.32) and dramatic decline of water quality to SI 3.18 in the river stretch downstream of industrial and municipal pollution at Litvínov-Záluží. Despite several minor pollution sources on the subsequent downstream river stretch until its mouth into the Elbe River, the water quality indicators fluctuated in the range of lower betamesosaprobity (SI 2.06–2.58). Species richness and biodiversity indices followed a similar pattern as river saprobity. Twenty-three fish species were documented in the Bílina River basin. Chub (<I>Leuciscus cephalus</I>), gudgeon (<I>Gobio gobio</I>) and roach (<I>Rutilus rutilus</I>) were the most frequent species at the Bílina sites. Chub was the most numerous fish in the tributaries. Fish species richness in the longitudinal profile did not increase downstream in the Bílina mainstem, most likely because the presence of reservoirs and water pollution interrupted the river continuum pattern. Qualitative data on fish assemblages corresponded to the course of environmental stress. A sustainable fish community was documented only in the lowermost site in Ústí nad&nbsp;Labem near the confluence with the Elbe River. The Bílina River tributaries constitute potential refuges for fish in this basin.
