The reaction O + OH → O2 + H in conditions of combustion of hydrocarbons and polymers was modelled by using the method of quasiclassical trajectories. The potential energy surface was determined by the multiconfiguration interaction method and fitted with the analytical form of the extended LEPS function. Attention was paid to the mean values of the vibrational and rotational quantum numbers of O2 molecules and their temperature dependence. The temperature dependence of the mean lifetime of the OOH collision complex was also examined. The calculated rate constants were analyzed and compared with the experimental data over the temperature region of the combustion processes.

This paper aims to qualitatively summarize the results up until now obtained in investigating the compatibility between the absoluteness of time and several well-known phenomena, such as the alleged increase of the mean lifetime of muons and the so-called relativistic corrections for GPS, whose explanation is commonly provided by resorting to Einstein’s Relativity. To make the discussion more flowing, we have herein preferred to completely avoid the writing of equations. All the analytical solutions, as well as several explicative figures, can be found in the first six articles cited in the references, drafted by the same author of this manuscript.

This paper evaluates the performances of dry, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) and MQL with nanofluid in turning the most common titanium (Ti) alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, in a solution treated and aged (STA) microstructure. In particular, the nanofluid evaluated here is vegetable oil (rapeseed) mixed with small concentrations of exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets (xGnP). The focus of this paper is on turning process because it poses a challenging condition to apply oil droplets directly onto the tribological surfaces of a cutting tool due to the continuous engagement of tool and work material. A series of turning experiments was conducted with uncoated carbide inserts while measuring the cutting forces with the dynamometer under various conditions to determine its effectiveness and optimal MQL condition in turning. The worn inserts are retrieved to measure flank and crater wear using confocal microscopy. This preliminary experimental result shows that the use of MQL and nanofluid is effective in improving the machinability of Ti alloys in turning processes.

The reorientation effect in Coulomb excitation has been used to measure the static quadrupole moment Q2+ and B(E2;0+->2+) for the 1779 MeV first excited state of 28Si. The results obtained are Q2+ = +15534 efm2 and B(E2;0+->2+) = 32620 e2fm4 ? The value obtained for Q2+ confirms the results of other recent determinations using the reorientation effect, and the B(E2; 0+ -> 2 +) value is in excellent agreement with the mean value deduced from previous lifetime determinations. Shell model and Hartree-Fock calculations of Q2+ both give a good account of the experimental result.

The mean lifetime of an embryo in the homogeneous nucleation from aqueous solution of the tetracyanoplatinates(II) of barium, calcium, and magnesium has been studied using the droplet technique. Supersaturation in the droplets was generated by selective extraction of the solvent into the surrounding silicone oil. Crystallization in the droplets was followed by photomicrography using plane polarized light. The data were analyzed using both the classical model and the mean lifetime model of Carlier and Frisch. The experimental results are consistent with the predicted relationship between the logarithm of the nucleation rate or the logarithm of the mean lifetime of an embryo and the inverse of the square of the logarithm of the supersaturation ratio at high supersaturation ratios. The calculated values of the inter-facial energy, using both models, are in close enough agreement to justify the assumptions made in the analysis.

This paper proposes a new method for forest height estimation using single-baseline single frequency polarimetric synthetic aperture radar interferometry (PolInSAR) data. The new algorithm estimates the forest height based on the random volume over the ground with a volume temporal decorrelation (RVoG+VTD) model. We approach the problem using a four-stage geometrical method without the need for any prior information. In order to decrease the number of unknown parameters in the RVoG+VTD model, the mean extinction coefficient is estimated in an independent procedure. In this respect, the suggested algorithm estimates the mean extinction coefficient as a function of a geometrical index based on the signal penetration in the volume layer. As a result, the proposed four-stage algorithm can be used for forest height estimation using the repeat pass PolInSAR data, affected by temporal decorrelation, without the need for any auxiliary data. The suggested algorithm was applied to the PolInSAR data of the European Space Agency (ESA), BioSAR 2007 campaign. For the performance analysis of the proposed approach, repeat pass experimental SAR (ESAR) L-band data, acquired over the Remningstorp test site in Southern Sweden, is employed. The experimental result shows that the four-stage method estimates the volume height with an average root mean square error (RMSE) of 2.47 m against LiDAR heights. It presents a significant improvement of forest height accuracy, i.e., 5.42 m, compared to the three-stage method result, which ignores the temporal decorrelation effect.

Printed circuit boards have been reported to have limited lifetime at 200 to 250°C. Characterization and modeling high temperature laminates for application at 200 to 250°C was conducted to better quantify the mean lifetime using accelerated testing of key functional parameters. Life testing and model development was applied for via cyclic life, peel strength, and weight loss. Four high temperature laminates consisting of 2 types were evaluated. Via lifetime was characterization using Interconnect Stress Test (IST) coupons. Peel strength was tested using IPC IPC-TM-650 method 2.4.8c. Weight loss was characterized using isothermal aging. Comparison of lifetime is made between the laminate samples.
