AbstractWe consider an odd-sized “jury”, which votes sequentially between two equiprobable states of Nature (say A and B, or Innocent and Guilty), with the majority opinion determining the verdict. Jurors have private information in the form of a signal in $$[-1,+1]$$ [ - 1 , + 1 ] , with higher signals indicating A more likely. Each juror has an ability in [0, 1], which is proportional to the probability of A given a positive signal, an analog of Condorcet’s p for binary signals. We assume that jurors vote honestly for the alternative they view more likely, given their signal and prior voting, because they are experts who want to enhance their reputation (after their vote and actual state of Nature is revealed). For a fixed set of jury abilities, the reliability of the verdict depends on the voting order. For a jury of size three, the optimal ordering is always as follows: middle ability first, then highest ability, then lowest. For sufficiently heterogeneous juries, sequential voting is more reliable than simultaneous voting and is in fact optimal (allowing for non-honest voting). When average ability is fixed, verdict reliability is increasing in heterogeneity. For medium-sized juries, we find through simulation that the median ability juror should still vote first and the remaining ones should have increasing and then decreasing abilities.

In this paper we show that three conditions due to Pattanaik, when satisfied by a given profile of state-dependent preferences (linear orders) on a given and fixed set of alternatives and a probability distribution with which the various states of nature occur, are individually sufficient, for the non-emptiness of the set of alternative(s) which are individually preferred to all alternatives other than itself with probability at least half. Prior to this, we show that since each axiom individually implies Sen-Coherence, then, as a consequence of a result obtained earlier, each axiom along with asymmetry of the ‘preferred with at probability at least half” relation implies the transitivity of the relation. All the sufficient conditions discussed here are required to be applicable at least to all those otherwise relevant events that have positive probability. This observation also applies to a sufficient condition for the non-emptiness of the set of alternative(s) which are individually preferred to all alternatives other than itself with probability at least half, called Generalised Sen Coherence introduced and discussed in earlier research.

Organizations often require agents’ private information to achieve critical goals such as efficiency or revenue maximization, but frequently it is not in the agents’ best interest to reveal this information. Strategy-proof mechanisms give agents incentives to truthfully report their private information. In the context of matching markets, they eliminate agents’ incentives to misrepresent their preferences. We present direct field evidence of preference misrepresentation under the strategy-proof deferred acceptance in a high-stakes matching environment. We show that applicants to graduate programs in psychology in Israel often report that they prefer to avoid receiving funding, even though the mechanism preserves privacy and funding comes with no strings attached and constitutes a positive signal of ability. Surveys indicate that other kinds of preference misrepresentation are also prevalent. Preference misrepresentation in the field is associated with weaker applicants. Our findings have important implications for practitioners designing matching procedures and for researchers who study them. This paper was accepted by Axel Ockenfels, decision analysis.

Pulp and paper processes frequently present nonlinear behavior, which means that process dynam-ics change with the operating points. These nonlinearities can challenge process control. PID controllers are the most popular controllers because they are simple and robust. However, a fixed set of PID tuning parameters is gen-erally not sufficient to optimize control of the process. Problems related to nonlinearities such as sluggish or oscilla-tory response can arise in different operating regions. Gain scheduling is a potential solution. In processes with mul-tiple control objectives, the control strategy must further evaluate loop interactions to decide on the pairing of manipulated and controlled variables that minimize the effect of such interactions and hence, optimize controller’s performance and stability. Using the CADSIM Plus™ commercial simulation software, we developed a Jacobian sim-ulation module that enables automatic bumps on the manipulated variables to calculate process gains at different operating points. These gains can be used in controller tuning. The module also enables the control system designer to evaluate loop interactions in a multivariable control system by calculating the Relative Gain Array (RGA) matrix, of which the Jacobian is an essential part.

This research is motivated by the lack of listening skills obtained by the students, it is seen from the results of an assessment of the listening skills of students still achieved an average grade 56.32 or reach under the KKM predetermined value is 70. This study aims to determine whether the Team Learning model Listener can improve listening skills of students in the subject of Indonesian student Class V SD Negeri 007 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam Rokan Hulu. The subjects were 38 students in the academic year 2014-2015. Form of research is classroom action research. The data collection technique used is the technique of test and non test. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the ability to listen to the story class V students of SD Negeri 007 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam Rokan Hulu can be improved by applying the learning model listener team. On average ability to listen to stories of students in the early test is average with the average value of 56.32 by the medium category, and in the first cycle rose to 69.47 in the medium category, while in the second cycle listening skills of students categorized as high with the percentage of the average value of 76, 58 with a high category. Therefore, the success rate has exceeded 70 of the total number of students, which means that most students have achieved success predetermined value (minimum 75%).

This research is motivated by the low ability of basic technique of playing the students' grate V.A SDN 002Pantai Cermin Kabupaten Kampar. This study aims to improve the basic techniques of playing kasti throughcooperative learning methods paired type students class V.A SDN 002 Pantai Cermin Kampar District. Thesubjects of this study are students of class V.A SDN 002 Pantai Cermin Kabupaten Kampar with the number ofstudents as many as 28 people. The form of research is classroom action research. The instrument of thisresearch consisted of performance instrument and data collection instrument in the form of observation sheet ofteacher activity and student activity. The basic technique ability to play with cooperative method of paired typelearning in VA VAN 002 Pantai Cermin Kabupaten Kabupaten Kampar average of basic technique ability toplay the students' census on the initial test is categorized less with percentage 48,9%, in cycle I increase to68,4% with sufficient category whereas in cycle II the average ability of students is categorized very high with90.8% percentage. The cassical completeness specified in this study that 80% of students have been declaredthoroughly achieved. The conclusion of this research is the application of cooperative learning method pair typecan improve basic technique of playing kasti.
