In the paper, the results of experiments on high elastane cotton crochet warp knitting fabrics treated with different calcium chloride solutions by the pad-dry-cure method have been reported. The tests for evaluating the antibacterial activity, thermophysiological comfort properties, physical performance of the samples were performed. In addition, the characterization analyses, including SEM, EDX, FTIR-attenuated total reflectance (ATR), and XRD, afforded indications of the good crosslinking of the CaCl2 onto the cotton/elastane samples. At a higher degree of activity, the calcium-chloride-treated fabrics were rated as having good antibacterial activity, being exceptionally breathable, and being comfortable with good physical properties such as stiffness, handle, and whiteness properties.

The bleaching efficiency of hydrogen peroxide can be promoted by using suitable activator. In our research, two methods were applied to compare the activating ability of three activators, TAED (tetraacetylethylenediamine), acetamide and dicyandiamide. The first part was hydrogen peroxide bleaching. TAED was excellent, because the brightness improvement was the maximum; the viscosity was acceptable. Acetamide was an applied activator in peroxide bleaching, for it could get same effects as TAED if the bleaching process had enough time and enough dosage. In the last part our study was about the kinetics of a lignin model compounds, acetovanillone, in peroxide-alone system, TAED/H2O2 system, acetamide/H2O2 system and dicyandiamide/H2O2 system. The rate constant, k and half-life period, t1/2 can be used to compare the rate of oxidation of acetovanilone. Compared to peroxide-alone system, three systems with activator and H2O2 could accelerate the reactions of hydrogen peroxide and acetovanillone. The t1/2 of TAED/H2O2 system was least of them. It was just 1/5 of t1/2 of peroxide-alone system, 1/4 of t1/2 of acetamide/H2O2 system and dicyandiamide/H2O2 system. The activating ability order of activators was: TAED> acetamide> dicyandiamide.

Enzymes including starch-degrading enzymes and glucose oxidase are used in one-bath process to desize and bleach cotton fabrics. The effect of enzyme concentration on pretreatment efficiency, especially bleaching of cotton fabrics has been investigated by innovatively focusing on glucose conversion ratio of desizing products. The results showed that the starch sizing materials of cotton fabrics were completely removed by starch-degrading enzymes. The conversion ratio of glucose in desized liquor increased with concentration of glucoamylase. Consequently, whiteness of cotton fabrics bleached in one-bath process was also improved, and an increase of 7% in whiteness of bleached fabrics was observed. The fabric tear strength was decreased. However, the loss ratio could be controlled below 15%. The properties of softness and adsorption of bleached cotton fabrics were satisfactory.
