Abstract In order to approximate Gibbs energy functions, a semi-automated framework is introduced for binary and ternary material systems, using Calphad databases. To generate Gibbs energy formulations by means of second-order polynomials, the framework includes a precise approach. Furthermore, an optional extensional step enables the modeling of systems in which a direct generation leads to the unsatisfactory results in the representation of the thermodynamics. Within this extension, the commonly generated functions are modified to satisfy the equilibrium conditions in the observed material systems, leading to a better correlation with thermodynamic databases. The generated Gibbs energy formulations are verified by recalculating the equilibrium concentrations of the phases and rebuilding the phase diagrams in the considered concentration and temperature ranges, prior to the simulation studies. For all comparisons, a close match is achieved between the results and the Calphad databases. As practical examples of the method, phase-field simulation studies for the directional solidification of the binary – and the ternary – eutectic systems are performed. Good agreements between the simulation results and the reported theoretical and experimental studies from literature are found, which indicates the applicability of the presented approaches. The problems of constructing a multiphase model of the phase field for the processes of phase transitions of the first kind are considered. Based on the Gibbs energy of the complete system expressed in terms of antisymmetrized combinations of phase fields, it is shown that the equations of dissipative dynamics of a locally nonequilibrium system follow from the condition of its monotonic decrease, preserving the normalization of the sum of variables by one and the following properties of the previously known two-phase model.

With the help of the Thermo-Calc software package, arrays of calculated data were created for carbon concentrations in ferrite and austenite, corresponding to the para-equilibrium of these phases and their para-equilibrium with cementite, as well as for the corresponding temperatures A1 and A3. Marked arrays were obtained in wide temperature ranges for ranges of carbon concentrations and the most important substitution alloying elements (Mn; Si; Cr; Ni; Mo), covering the respective ranges for medium carbon and moderately alloyed steels. Analytical formulas were developed on the basis of the reference data arrays for calculating para-equilibrium concentrations of carbon in ferrite and austenite (depending on temperature and chemical composition), as well as temperatures A1 and A3 (depending on chemical composition), which allow to reproduce with high accuracy the results obtained using Thermo-Calc.

AbstractRechargeable batteries have a profound impact on our daily life so that it is urgent to capture the physical and chemical fundamentals affecting the operation and lifetime. The phase-field method is a powerful computational approach to describe and predict the evolution of mesoscale microstructures, which can help to understand the dynamic behavior of the material systems. In this review, we briefly introduce the theoretical framework of the phase-field model and its application in electrochemical systems, summarize the existing phase-field simulations in rechargeable batteries, and provide improvement, development, and problems to be considered of the future phase-field simulation in rechargeable batteries.

AbstractIn this article the issues related to mapping the route and error correction in automated guided vehicle (AGV) movement have been discussed. The nature and size of disruption have been determined using the registered runs in experimental studies. On the basis of the analysis a number of numerical runs have been generated, which mapped possible to obtain runs in a real movement of the vehicle. The obtained data set has been used for further research. The aim of this paper was to test the selected methods of digital filtering on the same data set and determine their effectiveness. The results of simulation studies have been presented in the article. The effectiveness of various methods has been determined and on this basis the conclusions have been drawn.

Passive balancing techniques have received a great deal of attention in recent literature, with much of this work focused on ball balancer systems. However, for certain applications, balancing systems that use pendulums rather than rolling balls may offer distinctly improved balancing precision. This investigation seeks to provide additional insight into the performance and expected behavior of such systems. A simulation model is developed for a pendulum balancer system with isotropic supports and analyzed in detail. The influence of shaft location and friction on balancing effectiveness is considered and evaluated. In this regard, the dynamic characteristics of a pendulum balancer system are analyzed and compared to a similar ball balancer system. The conclusions and observations from the analysis and simulation studies are demonstrated and tested in a series of experimental studies.
