Abstract Sb-CdS catalysts with good crystalline structure were prepared by chemical precipitation and hydrothermal method. The results showed that hydrothermal treatment is an effective method to prepare CdS based catalysts of hexagonal structure. Single Sb2S3 catalyst has spherical and Sb doped CdS catalysts have hexagonal structure. Sb doped CdS which is prepared by Na2S with chemical precipitation, has cubic structure. The band gap energies of Sb doped CdS photocatalysts were estimated using UV-visible reflectance spectra to be about the range of 2.35–2.57 eV. In particular, the photoluminescence (PL) spectra show enhancing emission peaks that strongly decrease with a doping Sb where the catalyst was prepared with ethylenediamine (EDA) and thioacetamide (TAA), has shown the lowest luminescence intensity. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue was carried out using Sb doped and Sb2S3-CdS binary catalysts under a 400 W medium-pressure mercury lamp of visible light irradiation (λ>420 nm). Higher photocatalytic degradation was achieved by adding Sb to CdS catalyst with using hydrothermal method and EDA as coordinating agent compare with the other catalysts. In this case the photocatalytic degradation of the Sb-CdS-EDA-TAA photocatalyst after 4 h irradiation time was about 84 %.

A new hydrothermal method was introduced to prepare TiO2 films. The films were prepared by using tetrabutyl titanate as precursor, toluene as solvent and hydrochloric acid as the inhibitor via a facile hydrothermal method. XRD, SEM, AFM, and TG-DSC were used to characterize phase structure and morphology of TiO2 thin films. XRD analysis showed that crystal phase of as- prepared films were anatase entirely, and its average size was 9 nm. AFM and SEM analysis indicated that films had nanocrystallines, and it was homogenous, dense and crack- free. Photocatalytic properties of TiO2 film were estimated by degradation of methylene blue . The result shows that the degradation rate of 40mL methylene blue solution with initial concentration 10 mg/L reaches to 52.8 % after irradiated for 120 min under 35W ultraviolet lamp ,and as-prepared TiO2 film has better photocatalytic property.

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized using arc discharge method at a magnetic field of 430 G and purified using HNO3/H2O2. Transmission electron micrographs revealed that MWCNTs had inner and outer diameter of ~2 nm and ~4 nm, respectively. Raman spectroscopy confirmed formation of MWCNTs showing G-band at 1577 cm−1. ZnFe2O4 and ZnFe2O4/MWCNT were produced using one step hydrothermal method. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the formation of cubic spinel ZnFe2O4 as well as incorporation of MWCNT into ZnFe2O4. Visible light photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) was studied using pure ZnFe2O4 and ZnFe2O4/MWCNT. The results showed that ZnFe2O4/MWCNT composite had higher photocatalytic activity as compared to pure ZnFe2O4. After irradiation for 5 hours in the visible light, MB was almost 84% degraded in the presence of ZnFe2O4 photocatalyst, while 99% degradation was observed in case of ZnFe2O4/MWCNT composite. This enhancement in the photocatalytic activity of composite may be attributed to the inhibition of recombination of photogenerated charge carriers.

nanosized TiO2 were prepared using TiOSO4 as the precursor by hydrolysis-precipitation and hydrothermal method. Through dipping granular activated carbon (GAC) into the TiO2 hydrosols, The nanosized TiO2/GACs composite was obtained. The surface morphology, microstructure and element distribution of the composite were characterized by TEM, SEM, XRD, EDS respectively. The results show that the synthesized nanosized TiO2 is anatase phase with average size of 150-200 nm and can be dispersed uniformly on the surface of GACs. Photocatalytic experimental shows that when the load amount is 1.5%, the nanosized TiO2/GACs composite have the best effect of removal methylene blue, the rate up to 97.0 % in 180 min.
