Abstract Interest in botanical medicines is increasing worldwide with current global market values estimated to be greater than US $72 billion. To ensure ingredients used in botanical preparations are appropriately identified and will deliver the intended benefit while minimizing potential for risk, good manufacturing practices (GMPs) are required. GMPs require that scientifically valid analytical techniques be used. This review discusses a variety of techniques of quality assessment taking into account the different challenges between academicians and manufacturers with the basic premise that all techniques are scientifically valid if used appropriately, and conversely, are limited if not used in a scientifically valid manner. The strengths and limitations, applications and inapplicability, of some of these techniques will be discussed, as will differences between traditional and more modern analytical techniques. A strong emphasis is placed on classical botanical and traditional macromorphological assessment techniques that represent the basis of identification and quality assessment upstream of other techniques such as analytical chemistry and genetics. It will be shown that it is the suite of botanical and chemical techniques that provides the greatest confidence for ensuring the identity and quality of botanical medicines.

In Ayurveda many Ayurvedic formulations are explained, which used to treat a variety of illness since ancient time and to protect patient faith in Ayurveda and Ayurvedic treatment, scientifically proven safety, standard and quality of herbs is the need of the hour. Nilotpaladi yoga (NY)  is mentioned in Ayurvedic texts for the Treatment of Raktatisara  (~haemorrhagic diarrohea). Nilotpaladi yoga consists of four ingredients such as Nilakamala (Nymphaea nouchali Burm. f.), Mocharasa (Salmalia malabarica  Schott & Endl.), Lajavanti  (Mimosa pudica  Linn.) and Kamalakesara (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.). Nilotpaladi yoga ingredient like Mochrasa (Salmalia malabarica  Schott & Endl.) is known to be effective as Shonita sthapaka gana  (a group of drugs that act as haemostatics). Physiochemical analysis of Nilotpaladi yoga is not explored in detail. So, this article is an attempt to present a physiochemical analysis of ingredients of Nilotpaladi yoga by using Modern analytical Techniques. Physio-chemical analysis, HPTLC etc., were carried out as per standard methods.

Over the years image quality assessment is one of the active area of research in image processing. Distortion in images can be caused by various sources like noise, blur, transmission channel errors, compression artifacts etc. Image distortions can occur during the image acquisition process (blur/noise), image compression (ringing and blocking artifacts) or during the transmission process. A single image can be distorted by multiple sources and assessing quality of such images is an extremely challenging task. The human visual system can easily identify image quality in such cases, but for a computer algorithm performing the task of quality assessment is a very difficult. In this paper, we propose a new no-reference image quality assessment for images corrupted by more than one type of distortions. The proposed technique is compared with the best-known framework for image quality assessment for multiply distorted images and standard state of the art Full reference and No-reference image quality assessment techniques available.

Abstract The purpose of the present work is to underline the importance of obtaining a standardized procedure to ensure and evaluate both clinical and research usability of human tissue samples. The study, which was carried out by the Biospecimen Science Working Group of the Spanish Biobank Network, is based on a general overview of the current situation about quality assurance in human tissue biospecimens. It was conducted an exhaustive review of the analytical techniques used to evaluate the quality of human tissue samples over the past 30 years, as well as their reference values if they were published, and classified them according to the biomolecules evaluated: (i) DNA, (ii) RNA, and (iii) soluble or/and fixed proteins for immunochemistry. More than 130 publications released between 1989 and 2019 were analysed, most of them reporting results focused on the analysis of tumour and biopsy samples. A quality assessment proposal with an algorithm has been developed for both frozen tissue samples and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples, according to the expected quality of sample based on the available pre-analytical information and the experience of the participants in the Working Group. The high heterogeneity of human tissue samples and the wide number of pre-analytic factors associated to quality of samples makes it very difficult to harmonize the quality criteria. However, the proposed method to assess human tissue sample integrity and antigenicity will not only help to evaluate whether stored human tissue samples fit for the purpose of biomarker development, but will also allow to perform further studies, such as assessing the impact of different pre-analytical factors on very well characterized samples or evaluating the readjustment of tissue sample collection, processing and storing procedures. By ensuring the quality of the samples used on research, the reproducibility of scientific results will be guaranteed.

Wine is an amazingly complex natural product that requires dedicated scientists to resolve many of its mysteries. Traditional synthetic organic chemistry and modern analytical techniques are powerful tools at the disposal of wine chemists who tackle the complexities of wine in order to improve scientific understanding and provide practical solutions to industry. Part of this quest for knowledge relates to maintaining or improving wine quality, which underpins consumer acceptance and links to the competitiveness of wineries in a global market. Wine aroma is an important aspect of wine quality and garners much attention from researchers. Grape-derived aroma compounds are one area of particular importance owing to their distinctiveness and ability to impart ‘varietal aromas’ to wines. Varietal thiols imparting tropical and citrus notes that are characteristic of wines such as Sauvignon Blanc have emerged, along with their grape-derived precursors, as an area of interest over the past two decades. These compounds have also caught our attention and we have made some important contributions to this field, including identifying new precursors, developing novel analytical methods, and conducting studies that provide unique insights into the biochemical transformations occurring in grape berries and juice, and during fermentation.

Mukta bhasma (calx of Pearl), an unique herbo-mineral preparation used traditionally as an effective antacid, anti-pyretic and anti-ulcer is a compound mainly consisting of calcium carbonate. Many pharmaceutical companies manufacture Mukta bhasma but whether the quality of all remains same or not is always doubtful. This doubt can be cleared by using classical bhasma parikshas like Rekhapurnata,Vaaritara Unama and modern analytical techniques like NPST. Thus, Mukta bhasma prepared by classical reference in our department along with three market samples were subjected to above tests and the results were compared. There was considerable difference in the bhasma parikshas and NPST spot pattern among all the four samples. The bhasma prepared in our department had nearest results to standard NPST of Mukta bhasma.

The author describes the project of the expert system, allowing to implement the EBE assessment without the experts’ participation. There is given the comparison of the results of assessments, carried out by experts and by the expert system.

Представлены результаты экспертной оценки качества цитогенетических исследований в лабораториях РФ в системе межлабораторных сличительных испытаний «ФСВОК» в 2018-2019 гг. Обсуждаются наиболее частые причины неудовлетворительных результатов экспертизы и возможные пути улучшения качества цитогенетических исследований. We report the results of quality assessment for preparation of cytogenetic slides and chromosomal analysis in the laboratories of Russian Federation in the system of the interlaboratory comparative examinations “FSVOK” in 2018-2019. Common causes of poor results of assessment and the ways for improvement of quality for cytogenetic investigations are discussed.

ABSTRACTIndonesia is the world's largest producer of crude palm oil (CPO). Even so, the trend of international trade in Indonesian CPO products has decreased in the last 10 years with a value of -10.19%. The decline in world demand for CPO can be dealt with by utilizing CPO as a biofuel for domestic use, like biodiesel. The purpose of this study is to determine the competitiveness of Indonesian CPO in global trade and determine the parameters of the quality requirements of CPO and biodiesel. The competitiveness analysis method uses the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method, while the analysis of the potential quality of CPO as a biofuel is carried out by analyzing the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). CPO trade in the global market is controlled by Indonesia with a market share of 50% and Malaysia 25.6%, with the declining trade trend in the last 10 years relatively (2010-2019) of -6.91%. The level of competitiveness of Indonesian CPO products in 2019 is very strong, but on average in the last 10 years, the level of competitiveness of Indonesian CPO is no better than that of Malaysia. Indonesia has SNI 01-2901-2006 and SNI 7182: 2015 as a determinant of the quality of CPO and biodiesel products developed in Indonesia so that the CPO and biodiesel produced fullfil sacurity and safety aspects when used by consumers.Keywords: crude palm oil (CPO), competitivenessv, quality, Indonesian National Standard (SNI) ABSTRAKIndonesia merupakan negara produsen minyak kelapa sawit mentah/ Crude Palm Oil (CPO) terbesar di dunia. Penurunan permintaan dunia terhadap CPO, dapat disiasati dengan memanfaatkan CPO sebagai bahan bakar nabati untuk keperluan dalam negeri sebagai biodiesel. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui daya saing CPO Indonesia dalam perdagangan global dan mengetahui parameter persyaratan mutu CPO dan biodiesel. Metode analisis daya saing menggunakan metode Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), sedangkan analisis potensi kualitas CPO sebagai biofuel dilakukan dengan menganalisis Standar Nasional Indoensia (SNI). Perdagangan CPO dalam pasar global dikuasai oleh Indonesia dengan pangsa pasar 50% dan Malaysia 25,6%, dengan tren perdagangan relatif menurun dalam 10 tahun terakhir (2010-2019) sebesar -6,91%. Tingkat daya saing produk CPO Indonesia pada tahun 2019 sangat kuat, namun secara rata-rata dalam 10 tahun terakhir, tingkat daya saing CPO Indonesia tidak lebih baik dari Malaysia. Indonesia memiliki SNI 01-2901-2006 dan SNI 7182:2015 sebagai penentu kualitas produk CPO dan biodiesel yang dikembangkan di Indonesia, sehingga CPO dan biodiesel yang dihasilkan memenuhi aspek keamanan dan keselamatan ketika digunakan oleh konsumen.Kata kunci: crude palm oil (CPO), daya saing, kualitas, Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI)

A study of the quality of the development of estimate documentation on the cost of construction at all stages of the implementation of large projects in the oil and gas industry is conducted. The main problems that arise in construction organizations are indicated. The analysis of the choice of the perfect methodology of mathematical modeling of the investigated business process for improving the activity of budget calculations, conducting quality assessment of estimates and criteria for automation of design estimates is performed.
