Wavelet analysis with its unique features is very suitable for analyzing non-stationary signal, and it can also be used as an ideal tool for signal processing in fault diagnosis. The characteristics of the faults and the necessary information on the diagnosis can be constructed and extracted respectively by wavelet analysis. Though wavelet analysis is specialized in characteristics extraction, it can not determine the fault type. So this paper has proposed an energy analysis method based on wavelet transform. Experiment results show the method is very effective for sensor fault diagnosis, because it can not only detect the sensor faults, but also determine the fault type.

In view of the inaccuracy of the traditional correlation analysis method, this paper proposes a correlation analysis method between the multifractal characteristics of regional landforms and the development of geological disasters. Firstly, the multifractal characteristics of regional landforms are described by using the basic fractal characteristics of self-similarity or scale invariance. Then the corresponding relation table is established according to the width of the fractal spectrum and the number of landslides and hidden dangers, and the spatial relationship of geological disaster development is analyzed. Combined with the above-mentioned spatial relationship of geological disaster development and the multifractal characteristic data of regional landforms, the correlation coefficient between the two is calculated to complete the correlation analysis between the multifractal characteristics of regional geomorphology and the development of geological disasters. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional correlation analysis method, the correlation analysis results of the multifractal characteristics of regional geomorphology and the development of geological disasters are more accurate.

Harmonic wavelet function, with the strict box-shaped characteristic of spectrum, has strong ability of identifying signal in frequency domain, and can extract weak components form vibration signals in frequency domain. Using harmonic wavelet analysis method, the selected frequency region and other frequency components of vibration signal of mine ventilator were decomposed into independent frequency bands without any over-lapping or leaking. Simulation and diagnosis example show that this method has good fault diagnosis effect, and the ventilator fault is diagnosed successfully.

Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) is a scaling analysis method that can identify intrinsic self-similarity in any nonstationary time series. In contrast, Wavelet Transform (WT) method is widely used to investigate the self-similar processes, as the self-similarity properties exist within the subbands. Therefore, a combination of these two approaches, DFA and WPT, is promising for rigorous investigation of such a system. In this paper a new methodology, so-called wavelet DFA, is introduced and interpreted to evaluate this idea. This approach, further than identifying self-similarity properties, enable us to detect and capture the chaos-periodic transitions, band merging, and internal crisis in systems that become chaotic through period-doubling phenomena. Changes of wavelet DFA exponent have been compared with that of Lyapunov and DFA through Logistic, Sine, Gaussian, Cubic, and Quartic Maps. Furthermore, the potential capabilities of this new exponent have been presented.
