Risk assessment methodology is described in detail and applied for assessing the geological hazard for potential landslides and earthquakes. This methodology follows the guidelines of ISO 31010 and the JRC recommendations, and is applied for the first time in Bulgaria. The obtained results have high practical applicability. The flexibility of the methodology allows the final result to be presented as either a risk matrix or risk profiles. It depends on the specific tasks, issues and scientific problems that need to be solved.

Abstract Debris flow is the mainly the geological disasters in Nujiang Prefecture, while precipitation is the trigger of it, how to implement debris flow forecast based on precipitation monitoring data or forecast data is a hot issue in current debris flow disaster research field. Because of the special geomorphology in Nujiang Prefecture, due to the influence of human activities, geological disasters occur frequently, severely affect the local economic development. As a demonstration area of geological disaster monitoring and early warning in Yunnan Province, to build a well-developed geological disaster warning system, it is very important to spread it to other parts of Yunnan province. Based on the analysis of the current situation of geological disasters in Nujiang Prefecture, adopt appropriate monitoring method and calculation method to select the primary sites for debris flow monitoring and early warning in the Nu River basin for research.

Oil and gas pipelines are part of long-distance transportation projects which pass through areas with complex geological conditions and which are prone to geological disasters. Geological disasters significantly affect the safety of pipeline operations. Therefore, it is essential to conduct geological disaster risk assessments in areas along pipelines to ensure efficient pipeline operation, and to provide theoretical support for early warning and forecasting of geological disasters. In this study, the pipeline routes of the Sichuan-Chongqing and Western Hubei management offices of the Sichuan-East Gas Transmission Project were studied. Seven topographic factors—surface elevation, topographic slope, topographic aspect, plane curvature, stratum lithology, rainfall, and vegetation coverage index—were superimposed using the laying method with a total of eight evaluation indicators. The quantitative relationships between the factors and geological disasters were obtained using the geographic information system (GIS) and weight of evidence (WOE). The backpropagation neural network (BP) was optimised using a genetic algorithm (GA) to obtain the weight of each evaluation index. The quantified index was then utilized to identify the geological hazard risk zone along the pipeline. The results showed that the laying method, stratum lithology, and normalised difference vegetation index were the factors influencing hazards.

Weibei area is the largest limestone resource area in Shaanxi Province, which is an important boundary to distinguish the climate difference between the south and the north of China, and also a significant ecological safety protection barrier in the northwest of China. The complex geological environment and harsh environment make the mining area have serious geological disaster hidden danger. Based on the site engineering geological data of typical limestone quarry slope in Weibei, this paper constructs a three-dimensional geological model, uses FLAC3D software to simulate excavation, and analyzes the stress and strain law of the quarry slope. SlopeLE software was used to analyze the safety factor of slope stability and the potential slip surface before and after taking reinforcement measures. The results show the following: (1) Limestone is the main rock component of the mine, followed by mudstone. The joint and fissure are developed, the rock mass is broken, and the hidden danger of engineering geological disaster is high. (2) There is a sliding trend in both sides during excavation, and the maximum vertical displacement is 2.1 cm. (3) If the slope is reinforced according to the design scheme, the slope stability safety factor will be increased from 1.062 to 1.203 in a stable state, which greatly improves the stability of the slope and provides a guarantee for human and financial resources.

Starting with introduction to the geologic environment, this book elaborates the theory, cause, and current situation about the highway damages in the Wenchuan Earthquake Stricken Area in simple language on the basis of a great deal of full and accurate investigation data about the Wenchuan Earthquake and post-earthquake geological disasters. These results provide valuable technical support for the reconstruction of post-earthquake highways and prevention of post-earthquake geological disasters. This book, the pictures and their accompanying text are both excellent. This book is divided into fourteen chapters, covering geological disaster review, surface rupture zone and liquefaction, collapses and landslide and post-earthquake secondary debris flow, as well as a large number of precious affected highway examples.
