Abstract Purpose of Review New transcatheter techniques to perform tricuspid annuloplasty are evolving and are introduced into the clinical routine. Yet, clinical experience is limited. Recent Findings Currently, 3 different techniques for tricuspid annuloplasty have been used in larger clinical cohorts. They can be divided into direct annuloplasty techniques and suture plication techniques. The largest clinical evidence is related to direct annuloplasty techniques. It has been shown that annular dimensions can be effectively reduced. This translates into an improvement of the degree of tricuspid regurgitation and improvement of clinical symptoms. Due to the newness of this type of therapy, long-term data is limited, but for one of the described techniques, published data show that the positive effects persist over a 2-year period. Summary Transcatheter approaches are safe and are able to treat tricuspid regurgitation effectively. There are still differences in the efficacy of the different techniques. Clinical experience varies among the different approaches.

Pituitary stalk lesions (PSL) are a very rare pathology. The majority of conditions affecting the infundibulum do not present with clinically apparent symptoms, what makes the diagnosis difficult. The recognition might be also complicated by the non-specific and transient characteristics of hormonal insufficiencies. In our study, we retrospectively analysed demographic, biochemical, and clinical long-term data of 60 consecutive, unselected adult patients (34 women and 26 men) with PSL diagnosed in the Department of Endocrinology, Jagiellonian University in Krakow. The diagnosis of PSL were categorized as confirmed, probable, or undetermined in 26, 26 and 8 patients, accordingly. Given the possible aetiology congenital, inflammatory, and neoplastic stalk lesions were diagnosed in 17, 15 and 20 patients, accordingly. In eight cases the underlying pathology remained undetermined. The most common pituitary abnormality was gonadal insufficiency diagnosed in 50.8% of cases. Diabetes insipidus was detected in 23.3% of cases. In 5% of patients the pituitary function recovered partially over time. Stalk lesions were extensively discussed in the context of the current literature. Based on the published data and our own experience a diagnostic algorithm has been proposed to help physicians with the management of patients with this challenging condition.

Continuous delivery of dopaminergic drugs is an important treatment strategy to delay or reverse motor complications in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Subcutaneous apomorphine (APO) infusion has been shown (in uncontrolled studies) to significantly reduce ‘off’ time and dyskinesia duration and severity, and long-term data show the beneficial effects persist for several years. There is some evidence that the maximum antidyskinetic effect of APO infusion may be attained when oral medications are reduced or discontinued, making monotherapy an important clinical goal. Recent studies demonstrate possible positive effects of APO infusion on the non-motor symptoms of PD. However, more trials are needed to assess the neuropsychiatric effects of this treatment. Moreover, randomised controlled trials are needed to compare APO infusion with best medical treatment and with other invasive treatments such as levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel infusion and deep brain stimulation.

Specific parameters determined from continental ice sheet or glacier cores can be used to reconstruct former climate. Tο use this scientific resource effectively, an information system is needed which guarantees consistent long-term data storage and provides easy access. Such a system, to archive any data of paleoclimatic relevance, together with the related metadata, raw data and evaluated paleoclimatic data, is presented. It is based on a relational database and provides standardized import and export routines, easy access with uniform retrieval functions and tools for visualizing the data. The network is designed as a client-server system, providing access through the Internet with proprietary client software including a high functionality or read-only access to published data via the World Wide Web (www.pangaea.de).
