Two vegetable dyes of indigo naturalis and turmeric were combined on dyeing tussah silk fabric with two steps. The first step is dyeing the silk fabric with indigo naturalis by reduction process, and then dyed with turmeric by direct dyeing process. The results of single factor experiment on the indigo naturalis dyed tussah silk fabric dyeing with turmeric indicated that the relative concentration, pH value, dyeing temperature, and dyeing time had effect to a certain extent on the over dyeing. The dyeing conditions were determined by the above single factor experiment. The rubbing fastness and washing resistance of the dyed silk fabric could achieve to grade 3 more than grade 3.

A natural dye extracted from lac was applied to a silk fabric by the use of pad-dry technique under different conditions. The dyeing properties were evaluated by measuring K/S and CIELAB values. In addition, the different fastness properties were evaluated. The effect of dyes at different mordant concentration levels with respect to their colour strength was also studied. Silk fabrics dyed with lac extract showed a light pink shade, while those dyed with alum and stannous chloride pinkish-red colour. Silk substrates dyed with CuSO4 gave a purple red colour, while those dyed with FeSO4 had a reddish-gray colour. The fastness properties ranged from fair to good, while washing fastness was poor level.

An improved multivoltine variety of Rajshahi silk fabric is used as material for investigation. This fabric is degummed to remove sericin, as sericin is soluble in hot water and highly responsible for the fading of dyed silk after washing. Rajshahi silk fabric is dyed with Reactive Brown 10 and Direct Orange 31 dyes. The color of the silk fabric becomes even and bright when it is dyed with 2.0% Reactive Brown 10 and 2.5% Direct Orange 31 after 50-60 minutes at 80-100°C. To achieve fast color, the silk fabric is treated with six modifying conditions prior to dyeing and among them, comparatively better modifying conditions are selected on the basis of color fastness upon exposure to sunlight in air and wash fastness in a soap solution. The modified Rajshahi silk fabric with 30% CH3COOH and 20% tannic acid together show better dyeing properties than modifications with other conditions and unmodified silk fabric. Direct Orange 31 shows better colorfastness than Reactive Brown 10 after exposure to sunlight in air and also after washing with a soap solution.

Ferrous sulfate was used as a mordant. The dyeing properties were evaluated by measuring K/S and CIELAB values. In addition, the different fastness properties were evaluated. The effect of dyes at different concentration levels with respect to their colour strength was also studied.
