Alginate fibre has attracted great attention in the area of biological medical materials due to its unique biological properties. But its low tenacity greatly hinders its application area. Therefore, the preparation technology of alginate fibre has been as an important research direction in this area in recent years. The purpose of this article is to prepare the calcium alginate fibre with good properties by wet spinning. The structure and properties of this fibre are analyzed by scanning electron microscope, infrared spectrometer, thermal gravimetric analyzer and DSC.

A polyamide acid (PAA) based on diamine 4,4'-bis (4-aminophenoxy) diphenyl and 1,3-bis (3',4-dicarboxyphenoxy) benzene dianhydride was synthesized. PAA fibers were obtained by wet spinning. Then, these fibers were converted into polyimide by thermal imidization. Dependence of the structure and properties of fibers on the die drawing and the composition of the coagulation bath was studied. It is shown that the composition of the coagulation bath has a significant effect on the morphology and mechanical properties of polyimide (PI) fibers. To obtain defect-free fibers, a coagulation bath consisting of ethylene glycol/ethanol at 50/50 vol. % was found to be optimal. An increase in the die drawing of fibers from 1 to 2 times leads to an increase in tensile strength and strain at break of the polyimide fibers.

A heterocyclic meta-aramid fiber containing benzimidazole structure was prepared by the low-temperature polycondensation of m-phenylenediamine, 2-(4-aminophenyl)-5-benzimidazole, and isophthaloyl dichloride, followed by dry-jet wet spinning. The structure and properties of the heterocyclic modified meta-aramid (h-aramid for short) were explored and compared with poly(isophthaloylmetaphenylene diamine) (m-aramid for short). H-aramid exhibits excellent spinnability. The surface of the fiber is smooth and even, with a partially ordered structure. Mechanical properties, thermal resistance, and flame retardant of h-aramid are significantly enhanced as the introduction of benzimidazole can not only increase the rigidity of molecular chains but also strengthen hydrogen bonds and act as physical crosslinking points. The strength and modulus of h-aramid are up to 0.84 GPa and 16.66 GPa, respectively, with an elongation at break of 20%. The glass transition temperature and melting temperature of h-aramid reach 302°C and 356°C, respectively, about 30°C and 40°C higher than that of m-aramid. Temperature of 10 wt% weight loss under nitrogen and air atmosphere is 17°C and 39°C higher than those of m-aramid. Besides, the thermal degradation behavior of h-aramid was studied, and its degradation process and mechanism was proposed.

Calcium alginate fibers and nano-silica/calcium alginate blend fibers were prepared by the mean of wet spinning at the same spinning condition. The effect of nano-particles SiO2 on the structure and properties of alginate fibers were studied via many tests. The results showed that the tenacity of blend fibers increased with the growth of the content of SiO2 ranging from 1% to 5%, however, the tenacity of fibers became worse when the content of SiO2 was more than 5%. The effect of SiO2 content on hardness and tribological properties of the calcium alginate fiber was studied. The morphologies of the fibers surfaces were examined with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The result showed that the surface of blend fibers was still smooth when the consent of SiO2 not up to 7%, the best surface was obtained when SiO2 content was 5%. The incorporation of SiO2 also affected the absorption property of alginate fiber and made it decrease with the increase of SiO2 content. The structures of calcium alginate fibers and nano-silica/calcium alginate blend fibers were studied by infrared spectrum.

Copolymerized poly (m-phenylene isophthalamide) (co-PMIA) fibers with excellent thermal stability and good mechanical properties were developed via solution polycondensation process based on m-phenylenediamine (MPD), isophthaloyl dichloride (IPC), and 3,4′-oxydianiline (3,4′-ODA). Effects of the ether moiety on the structure and properties of the copolymers were investigated. A series of co-PMIA nascent fibers were produced using wet-spinning method. The coagulation process to form co-PMIA nascent fibers were studied by examination of SEM and strength tester. The co-PMIA nascent fibers with the MPD/3,4′-ODA molar ratio of 8:2 showed an optimum dye uptake. Keywords: Copolymerization; High performance material; Wet spinning; Dyeability.
