AbstractIn recent years, the rapid ageing of the population, a longer life expectancy and elderly people’s desire to live independently are social changes that put pressure on healthcare systems. This context is boosting the demand for companion and entertainment social robots on the market and, consequently, producers and distributors are interested in knowing how these social robots are accepted by consumers. Based on technology acceptance models, a parsimonious model is proposed to estimate the intention to use this new advanced social robot technology and, in addition, an analysis is performed to determine how consumers’ gender and rational thinking condition the precedents of the intention to use. The results show that gender differences are more important than suggested by the literature. While women gave greater social influence and perceived enjoyment as the main motives for using a social robot, in contrast, men considered their perceived usefulness to be the principal reason and, as a differential argument, the ease of use. Regarding the reasoning system, the most significant differences occurred between heuristic individuals, who stated social influence as the main reason for using a robot, and the more rational consumers, who gave ease of use as a differential argument.

Mobile convergence has brought about many changes in the modern society. Especially, combining strengths of existing mobile phones and PDA functionality, smart phone is able to overcome the time and location limitations that existing desktop did not meet. This study tried to examine factors influencing intention to use of smart phone based on the theoretical studies on technology acceptance model. Applying to smart phones relevant theoretical relations extracted from previous theoretical research background on mobile devices, mobility, interactivity, innovativeness, social influence and job fitness were selected as independent variables of acceptance factors of smart phone and then research model and hypotheses were established by using these variables. To verify the hypothesis on whether smart phone acceptance factors have a significant influence on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, innovativeness was in significant influence on perceived ease of use, social influence was in significant influence on perceived usefulness and mobility and interactivity were in significant influence on both variables. As a result of analysis on perceived usefulness and intention to use, the mediating variables of perceived ease of use was in significant influence on perceived usefulness and perceived usefulness was in significant influence on intention to use.

This study investigates the factors that affect the user’s intention to use dashcam in Malaysia. This study examines the quantitative relationship of intrinsic as well as extrinsic factors such as personal innovativeness, perceived uniqueness, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude, perceived behavioral control, social influence, price value, and trust to the purchase intention of dashcam. Purposive sampling technique was employed to collect responses from 232 respondents based on two criteria: first, individuals who have experienced driving on the road and have a car; and second, individuals who not yet adopt or purchase the dashcam. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS (version 3.3.2). No relationship between personal innovativeness and perceived usefulness was found, in contrast to a significant relationship the former and perceived ease of use. Furthermore, perceived uniqueness was found significant to both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Consistent with the literature, both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use were identified as factors influencing attitude. However, perceived usefulness did not affect intention. Perceived behavioral control, social influence, attitude, and trust significantly affected the behavioral intention to use the dashcam in Malaysia. This study attempts to integrate and adapt two technology adoption models, namely the Combined Technology Acceptance Model and Theory Planned Behavior and extension of Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, also extends the model with personal innovativeness, perceived uniqueness, and trust to fulfil the study’s objectives as well.

The use of collaborative technologies in learning has received considerable attention in recent years, but few studies to date have examined the factors that affect sequential and global learners’ intention to use such technologies. Previous studies have shown that the learners of different learning styles have different needs for educational technologies. Accordingly, understanding the factors that affect the different types of learners’ intention to use collaborative technologies is an important issue. To this end, we add two external variables, facilitating conditions and social influence, to the technology acceptance model and then testing a number of hypotheses. Our results show that most of the hypotheses are supported, and further reveal that (1) attitude towards using is the most important determinant of students’ intention to use a collaborative technology, followed by social influence and facilitating conditions; (2) sequential learners are more concerned about perceived usefulness; (3) global learners are more concerned about perceived ease of use.

The present study integrates the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the innovation diffusion theory (IDT) for analysing consumers’ intention to make use of Paytm services. It is a cross-sectional study; the data was gathered from 259 Internet consumers. The statistical tools, including structural equation modelling (SEM), are applied to understand the inter-construct relationships. The intention to use Paytm is positively influenced by a perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and social influence. Moreover, the moderating effects of perceived risk (PR) are found to be significant on the associations among social influence, perceived ease of use and Paytm usage intentions. This study will help digital wallet service providers (DWSP), who focus on identifying the important factors for accelerating the use of mobile wallets. The findings will also facilitate the government to devise ways for augmenting cashless fund movement in the economy. Besides explaining the phenomenon of Paytm usage intentions, the study reveals the moderating role of PR with respect to various antecedents, thereby filling the gap in the existing literature.

With the rapid growth of information technology, electronic money has played an important and central role in the e-payment. Development of electronic money is able to create a trend less-cash society, which is a society’s behavior using non- cash transactions by utilizing the simplicity offered through electronic transactions. The purpose of this research is to determine the factors affecting the intention to use electronic money. We designed a questionnaire and used it to survey a simple random sampling of people who use of e-money in DKI Jakarta. The actual samples used for the study are 125 respondents. We analyzed the data using Structured Equation Modeling to evaluate the strength of the hypothesized effects. The result of the analysis showed that perceived ease of use has no significant effect on attitudes towards the use of e-money. Perceived ease of use has a significant effect on the perceived usefulness of e-money. Perceived usefulness has no significant effect on the intention to use e-money. Perceived usefulness has a significant effect on attitudes towards the use of e-money. Attitude has a significant effect on the intention to use e-money. Subjective norm has a significant effect on the intention to use e-money. Perceived behavioral control has no significant effect on the intention to use e-money. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that shape behavioural intentions of customers towards the adoption of payment banks in India. The conceptual framework of study is based upon integration of technology acceptance model with initial trust, facilitating conditions and social influence. Further, the study tests the moderating role of age, income and self-efficacy on the relationships between dependent variable and associated predicted variable. A total of 507 responses were collected from the state of Punjab (India), using convenient sampling technique and were analysed using the structural equation modelling (SEM). The results revealed that perceived ease of use had the highest impact on the behavioural intentions, followed by initial trust and social influence. Facilitating conditions and perceived usefulness showed lower impact on the behavioural intentions towards the adoption of payment banks. Also, moderation analysis revealed that self-efficacy moderates the relation of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness with behavioural intentions. Results imply that marketers should collaborate with developers to provide the customers with easy-to-operate solutions along with robust customer support mechanism to escalate the adoption intention of those having lower self-efficacy levels.

Traditional in-app virtual reality (VR)/augmented reality (AR) applications pose a challenge of reaching users due to their dependency on operating systems (Android, iOS). Besides, it is difficult for general users to create their own VR/AR applications and foster their creative ideas without advanced programming skills. This paper addresses these issues by proposing an interactive extended reality toolkit, named BlocklyXR. The objective of this research is to provide general users with a visual programming environment to build an extended reality application for digital storytelling. The contextual design was generated from real-world map data retrieved from Mapbox GL. ThreeJS was used for setting up, rendering 3D environments, and controlling animations. A block-based programming approach was adapted to let users design their own story. The capability of BlocklyXR was illustrated with a use case where users were able to replicate the existing PalmitoAR utilizing the block-based authoring toolkit with fewer efforts in programming. The technology acceptance model was used to evaluate the adoption and use of the interactive extended reality toolkit. The findings showed that visual design and task technology fit had significantly positive effects on user motivation factors (perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness). In turn, perceived usefulness had statistically significant and positive effects on intention to use, while there was no significant impact of perceived ease of use on intention to use. Study implications and future research directions are discussed.

This presentation describes Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) when using individual protective measures (IPMs) against the spreading of viruses like COVID-19. The constructs in TAM are perceived usefulness, and ease of use, attitude towards the use of IPMs and the actual use as well as social influence, which were measured with relevant indicator variables. The statistical method used in the analysis was Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). IPMs include personal protective measures for everyday use (e.g., voluntary home isolation, respiratory etiquette, and hand hygiene); Personal protective measures for influenza pandemics (e.g., voluntary home quarantine, and use of face masks in community settings); and Environmental measures (e.g., routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces). The results indicate that all relationships were significant also so that the effect sizes were large to medium with the exception of social influence -> perceived usefulness and social influence -> attitude towards usage.

The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the determinates of Korean students in China to use e-government services. A total of 400 structured research questionnaire instruments was designed and administered to potential respondents of which 93.75% responded. The Technology Acceptance Mode (TAM) was used as a theoretical framework for this study. The data gathered was analyzed with SPSS version 20. The results show that all the predictors (Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Service Quality, and Citizen Trust) investigated are significant positive determiners of Korean students' intention to adopt and use e-government services. The results further indicated that Citizen Trust positively and significantly moderated the positive relationship between perceived ease of use, perceived service quality and intention to use e-government services but failed to show any positive moderation effect on perceived usefulness and intention to use e-government services. The implications of these findings are further discussed.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to determine the beliefs that influence university students to use social networking sites (SNS) for expressive participation in social movements. Design/methodology/approach – The original technology acceptance model (TAM), a quantitative methodological approach, and a survey were used to collect responses from 214 university students in Spain. Structural equation modelling was used to test the proposed relationships. Findings – Results confirm that the perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU) of SNS significantly affect a student's intention to use SNS for expressive social participation in social movements, with use intention significantly affecting actual participation. There was no significant moderating effect of students' gender on these relationships. Originality/value – Although there is much discussion in the popular press about how people use SNS, there is no published empirical research on the determinants that contribute to a person's intention to use and actual use of SNS in the context of social movements. This paper is one of the first studies to investigate young people's perception of the SNS usefulness and ease of the use for participation in social movements.
