PurposeThe purpose of the study is to quantitatively evaluate the role of landscape values and factors in urban parks experimentally based on neuroscience.Design/methodology/approachIn the first step, ten major parks were selected out of 59 regional and trans-regional parks in Tehran for field study analysis. Next, considering the diversity and abundance of landscape elements in the selected parks, Mellat Park was chosen for the case study.FindingsThe fixation duration of the factors has an average correlation coefficient of 0.5865, −0.5035 and −0.5125 for the overall sketch map, quality and accuracy, respectively. The results indicated that the “quality of people's cognitive maps” has a direct relation to fixation duration on “human-made factors” and an inverse relation to fixation duration on “natural factors” and “human activities and behavioral factors” in the park.Practical implicationsThe results can pave the way for further research in the interdisciplinary fields of landscape architecture and neuroscience.Originality/valueLegibility is a superior quality of urban spaces that profoundly affect how people perceive and behave.

Rapid and unpredicted rate of urbanization have negatively impacted the lowland tropical forests. Introduced species and destruction are activities that bring harm to the sensitive yet precious wildlife and cause them habitats loss; bird family. This research aims to review the role of ornamental plant in providing food and shelter for urban birds in urban park. The research is conducted by the reviewing of literature and questionnaire survey analysis. It hoped that the review will contribute to the knowledge of landscape architecture on consideration as opportunity for birds in urban parks. Keywords: Bird habitats; ornamental plant; urban park; birds’ food and shelter. eISSN 2514-7528 © 2018. The Authors. Published for AMER ABRA cE-Bs by e-International Publishing House, Ltd., UK. Abstract Regarding the significant impact of visibility, landscape, and thermal comfort on the presence of users’ attendance in urban parks, there is a severe interest in studies on the amount of visibility and the outdoor thermal comfort especially in a district with hot summers. this research, after investigating the shafagh park based on space laws and the relationship between park spaces with each other in terms of accessibility and visibility to achieve the effect of plants, then, based on the obtained data, the role of plants in evaluating thermal comfort conditions in the park space was investigated and finally, their relationship with each other has been examined. results have revealed that, plants have an undeniable role in improving the conditions of thermal comfort and visual visibility and user movement in spaces, so that, the best points in terms of thermal comfort, had a favorable view and perspective, while, areas of the park that did not have good visibility and landscape did not experience favorable conditions in terms of thermal comfort. Therefore, architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who research the problem of thermal comfort and landscape analysis in urban parks can use the findings of this article for effective outcomes, especially in parks with climatic conditions use similar in Tehran.

Abstract An awareness of the role of public space is growing among the inhabitants of cities. This space is an integral part of our daily lives. It consists of places outside the home where we spend free time, i.e. the streets we walk on, the squares and greeneries where we meet, as well as playgrounds, parks and green areas where we rest and do sports. The quality of such space affects many aspects of human life. Positive trends in terms of growing public awareness do not, however, seem to be reflected in the awareness and actions of public entities in Poland, strong evidence of which are the widely criticized amendments of regulations governing the felling of trees. The goal of this article is to present the different dimensions of the value of urban parks, as well as to apply the direct use approach to measure the recreational value of the park system in Lodz. Expressing different aspects of the value of public space, especially parks, in monetary units and incorporating these values in spatial planning analysis can contribute to a significant improvement in the quality of life of urban dwellers and their perception of urban space.
