Aluminium-based TiB2reinforced composite is a promising material to be used as brake drum material, and it may emerge as substitute for conventional gray cast iron. Aluminium-based composites containing 2% by wt copper reinforced with 2.5 and 5 wt% TiB2composites were made in induction furnace by in situ synthesis process using simultaneous addition of halide fluxes (K2TiF6and KBF4). These cast composites were evaluated for microstructures, hardness, flow curve properties, and tensile properties. It was observed that overall wear behavior gave reasonably good correlation with mechanical properties of composites as compared to gray cast iron.

This experiment has examined the corrosion and tribological properties of basalt fiber reinforced composite materials. There were slight changes of weight after the occurring of corrosion based on time and H 2 SO 4 concentration, but in general, the weight increased. It is assumed that this happens due to the basalt fiber precipitate. Prior to the corrosion, friction-wear behavior showed irregular patterns compared to metallic materials, and when it was compared with the behavior after the corrosion, the coefficient of friction was 2 to 3 times greater. The coefficient of friction of all test specimen ranged from 0.1 to 0.2. Such a result has proven that the basalt fiber, similar to the resin rubber, shows regular patterns regardless of time and H 2 SO 4 concentration because of the space made between resins and reinforced materials.

<p>In the present work, Al2O3/A356 nano composites with different Al2O3 nano sizes (10 and 20 nm) and weight percentages (1 and 2 wt.%) have been prepared using rheocasting technique and followed by hot deformation at 250 °C with different ratios (30 and 40%). Pin on disc wear test was used to study wear behavior of prepared Al2O3/A356 nano composites while scanning electron microscopy used to build up the wear mechanism. The results showed that the hot deformed nano Al2O3 /A356 composites have lower wear rate compared with non deformed one. Furthermore, with increasing the particle size and percentage of Al2O3 nano particles, wear rate decreased. The optimal result was achieved at the nano-composite containing 20 nm Al2O3 particles after hot deformation with ratio of 40%. SEM studies of the worn surfaces of nano composites showed that the main wear mechanism was oxidative in conjunction with metallic one.</p>
