The development and evaluation of Mission Engineering Threads (METs) require an understanding of the operational context for which a system-of-systems (SoS) will be employed as well as an assessment that the performance of a complex SoS is effective and safe. The information describing the design and performance parameters of the systems within the SoS is distributed in many different physical locations, and is represented in a variety of formats, both structured and unstructured. Because of this dynamic on the structuring of the data to include differing ontology frameworks, it is necessary to develop a framework and toolset to handle the automated extraction of information from disparate information sources. In addition, this extracted information needs to be categorized properly into defined data types as represented in the specific MET to correctly capture the appropriate context of the mission scenario. Semantic technique solutions will be researched, analysed, and applied as a means to infer new facts from existing facts and data. These techniques are particularly powerful when the amount of data and/or the relationships and constraints among data are too cumbersome and complex for human understanding and reasoning. Using the characteristics of wine as an example, we present our framework to show how it enables rapid and contextually relevant extraction, and represents complex information in a user-friendly format.

Abstract Information visualization based on graph models is a key component of support tools for many applications in science and engineering. The Visual Graph system is intended for visualization of big amounts of complex information on the basis of attributed hierarchical graph models. In this paper, a circular layout algorithm for attributed hierarchical graphs with ports and its effective implementation in the Visual Graph system are presented.

Purpose Neurodevelopmental processes that begin during gestation and continue throughout childhood typically support language development. Understanding these processes can help us to understand the disruptions to language that occur in neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Method For this tutorial, we conducted a focused literature review on typical postnatal brain development and structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, magnetoencephalography, and electroencephalography studies of the neurodevelopmental differences that occur in ASD. We then integrated this knowledge with the literature on evidence-based speech-language intervention practices for autistic children. Results In ASD, structural differences include altered patterns of cortical growth and myelination. Functional differences occur at all brain levels, from lateralization of cortical functions to the rhythmic activations of single neurons. Neuronal oscillations, in particular, could help explain disrupted language development by elucidating the timing differences that contribute to altered functional connectivity, complex information processing, and speech parsing. Findings related to implicit statistical learning, explicit task learning, multisensory integration, and reinforcement in ASD are also discussed. Conclusions Consideration of the neural differences in autistic children provides additional scientific support for current recommended language intervention practices. Recommendations consistent with these neurological findings include the use of short, simple utterances; repetition of syntactic structures using varied vocabulary; pause time; visual supports; and individualized sensory modifications.

Abstract. Eye movements of children (Grade 5-6) and adults were monitored while they were watching a foreign language movie with either standard (foreign language soundtrack and native language subtitling) or reversed (foreign language subtitles and native language soundtrack) subtitling. With standard subtitling, reading behavior in the subtitle was observed, but there was a difference between one- and two-line subtitles. As two lines of text contain verbal information that cannot easily be inferred from the pictures on the screen, more regular reading occurred; a single text line is often redundant to the information in the picture, and accordingly less reading of one-line text was apparent. Reversed subtitling showed even more irregular reading patterns (e.g., more subtitles skipped, fewer fixations, longer latencies). No substantial age differences emerged, except that children took longer to shift attention to the subtitle at its onset, and showed longer fixations and shorter saccades in the text. On the whole, the results demonstrated the flexibility of the attentional system and its tuning to the several information sources available (image, soundtrack, and subtitles).

Russian policy makers argue that agriculture suffers from decapitalization due to financial constraints faced by producers. This view is the basis for the national agricultural policy, which emphasizes reimbursement of input costs and substitutes government and quasi-government organizations for missing market institutions. The article evaluates the availability of purchased farm inputs, the efficiency of their use, the main problems in the emergence of market institutions, and the impact of government policies. The analysis focuses on five groups of purchased inputs: farm machinery, fertilizers, fuel, seeds, and animal feed. The information sources include official statistics and data from two original surveys.
