Abstract Information visualization based on graph models is a key component of support tools for many applications in science and engineering. The Visual Graph system is intended for visualization of big amounts of complex information on the basis of attributed hierarchical graph models. In this paper, a circular layout algorithm for attributed hierarchical graphs with ports and its effective implementation in the Visual Graph system are presented.

Abstract Refer to the table’s feature, the paper advances a kind of table model, and then introduces how to convert the table into the table model, and gives a table layout algorithm based on the table model and the characteristic of the table layout in an embedded browser. At last the paper emphatically introduces the table layout algorithm that can be used to resolve the nested table layout and prevent the data out-flow the table.

This paper describes a new automatic layout algorithm named CoSEP for compound graphs with port constraints. The algorithm works by extending the physical model of a previous algorithm named CoSE by defining additional force types and heuristics for constraining edges to connect to certain user-defined locations on end nodes. Similar to its predecessor, CoSEP also accounts for non-uniform node dimensions and arbitrary levels of nesting via compound nodes. Our experiments show that CoSEP significantly improves the quality of the layouts for compound graphs with port constraints with respect to commonly accepted graph drawing criteria while running reasonably fast, suitable for use in interactive applications for small to medium-sized (up to 500 nodes) graphs. Problems in the field of data visualization are "how to define the layout algorithm to discover the hidden relationships in the financial data" and "how to design and develop a reliable system to implement the layout algorithm". Although there were many solutions to deal with the problems, the methods mainly focused on visualizing network topologies or social networks. This thesis develops a novel tree layout algorithm based on a power-law degree distribution and a robust flash web application system to investigate relationships in financial time-series data. Compared to previous tree layout algorithms, this novel layout algorithm is flexible, scalable, and easy to implement. Additionally, this thesis presents the design structure and important features in the novel graph visualization system. This system provides a number of unique characteristics. For example, if a new focus node is selected, the feature of animating zooming with degree separations will track an animating transition from one to another layout for users. At last, based on many experiments, the thesis demonstrates the profound applications and practices of this system. When utilizing the visualization system to display the data in world crude oil price, we discover that the price fluctuations of crude oil within Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) or non-OPEC group are correlated, but price fluctuations of crude oil between difference groups are uncorrelated.

Auxiliary stopping area (ASA) is the necessary emergency facility for train safety of the normal high-speed maglev. The study addresses the ASA layout problem of the high-speed maglev operated bidirectionally on single track. First, an optimization model of the ASA layout for unidirectional double-track lines considering train safety, operation efficiency, and construction cost is established, and two basic methods of the ASA layout are investigated based on the distance demand characteristic of ASAs. Then, the ASA layout problem of bidirectional single-track lines is analyzed, and an ASA two-way coordination layout algorithm (ASA-TWCLA) is proposed. Finally, a numerical experiment is carried out. The results suggest that under the premise of train safety and operation efficiency, compared with using the basic methods separately on the two directions, adopting the ASA-TWCLA algorithm can obtain a more economical ASA layout scheme for the same scenario.
