We performed measurement of mechanical atrioventricular conduction time intervals in human fetuses assessed by Doppler echocardiography and provided reference values. We found that atrioventricular conduction time interval was prolonged with gestational age and decreased with increasing fetal heart rate. No correlation between gestational age and heart rate was found. Using normal limits established by this study, mechanical atrioventricular interval >135 ms in the 20th week and/or >145 ms in the 26th week of gestation could be suspected of having the first-degree AV block. We compared reference values with fetuses of mothers with anti-SSA Ro/SSB La autoantibodies, being in risk of isolated congenital heart block development. One of 21 fetuses of mothers with positive autoantibodies was affected by prolonged atrioventricular interval according to the established limits, with sinus rhythm after the birth.

Objectives: to compare the accuracy of equations F.P. Hadlock and computer programs by V.N. Demidov in determining gestational age and fetal weight in the third trimester of gestation. Materials: 328 patients in terms 36–42 weeks of gestation are examined. Ultrasonography was performed in 0–5 days prior to childbirth. Results: it is established that the average mistake in determination of term of pregnancy when using the equation of F.P. Hadlock made 12,5 days, the computer program of V.N. Demidov – 4,4 days (distinction 2,8 times). The mistake within 4 days, when using the equation of F.P. Hadlock has met on average in 23,1 % of observations, the computer program of V.N. Demidov — 65,9 % (difference in 2,9 times). The mistake more than 10 days, took place respectively in 51,7 and 8,2 % (distinction by 6,3 times). At a comparative assessment of size of a mistake in determination of fetal mass it is established that when using the equation of F.P. Hadlock it has averaged 281,0 g, at application of the computer program of V.N. Demidov — 182,5 g (distinction of 54 %). The small mistake in the mass of a fetus which isn't exceeding 200 g at application of the equation of F.P. Hadlock has met in 48,1 % of cases and the computer program of V.N. Demidov — 64,0 % (distinction of 33,1 %). The mistake exceeding 500 g has been stated in 18 % (F.P. Hadlock) and 4,3 % (V.N. Demidov) respectively (distinction 4,2 times). Conclusions: the computer program of V.N. Demidov has high precision in determination of term of a gestation and mass of a fetus in the III pregnancy.

Chest bands have been the most used device to monitor heart rate during running. However, some runners feel uncomfortable with the use of bands due to the friction and pressure exerted on the chest. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine if the photoplethysmography (PPG) system Polar Precision Prime used in the Polar Vantage M watch could replace chest bands (Polar V800-H10) to monitor heart rate with the same precision. A group of 37 people, middle-distance and long-distance professional runners, participated in this study. The submaximal speed was determined using 50% of the participants’ maximum speed in the height of their season. The Polar Vantage M reported high correlation ( r > 0.84) and high ICC (ICC > 0.86) when comparing its heart rate monitor with the Polar V800 synchronised with H10 chest strap during recording intervals of more than 2 min. The systematic bias and random error were very small (<1 bpm), especially for the 600 s recording interval (0.26 ± 5.10 bpm). Nevertheless, the error increased for 10 s (−5.13 ± 9.20 bpm), 20 s (−8.65 ± 12.60 bpm) and 30 s (−10.71 ± 14.99 bpm) time intervals. In conclusion, the PPG Polar Precision Prime included in the Polar Vantage M demonstrates that it could be a valid alternative to chest bands for monitoring heart rate while running, taking into account some usage considerations, good strap adjustment and an initial calibration time during the first 2–3 min.

1. Average supine circulating total catecholamine concentrations were found to be higher than the normal range in about 50% of patients with labile hypertension and in about 30% of patients with sustained essential hypertension. 2. These higher resting concentrations were mainly due to an increase in adrenaline in labile hypertension and to an increase in noradrenaline in sustained hypertension. 3. Patients with elevated catecholamine concentrations were also characterized by a higher heart rate, by an increased myocardial contractility and by greater hypotensive response after treatment with β-adrenoreceptor blocking agents. 4. These studies suggest the existence of subgroups of hypertensive patients with increased sympathetic tone.

Interoceptive awareness is linked to emotional and social cognition, which are impaired in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is unknown how this ability is associated with age in either typical or atypical development. We used a standard test of interoceptive accuracy (IA) to investigate these questions in children and adults with and without ASD. Perceived number of heartbeats over 4 time intervals was compared with actual heart rate to determine IA. Effects of group, age, IQ, heart rate, and mental counting ability on accuracy were assessed using multiple regression. Post hoc correlations were performed to clarify significant interactions. Age was unrelated to IA in both groups when IQ ≥115. When IQ <115, this relationship was positive in typical development and negative in ASD. These results suggest that cognitive ability moderates the effect of age on IA differently in autism and typical development.

Background: Stillbirth is defined by WHO as the birth of a baby with a birth weight of 500 gm or more, 22 or more completed weeks of gestation or a body length of 25 cm or more, who died before or during labour and birth.Methods: This was prospective observational study of factors affecting stillbirth was conducted in tertiary hospital for a period of 1 year from 1st June 2014 to 31st May 2015. During the study period, 200 parturient of gestational age 28 weeks or more and fetal weight 1000 gm or more with or without medical disorders were included.Results: The total number of births during study period was 11,951. Stillbirth rate in the present study was 16.73 per 1000 births. Most of stillbirths were seen in the antepartum period (76%) when compared to intrapartum period (24%). Maximum stillbirths occurred in gestational age of 36 weeks and above (52%) and fetal weight between 2001-2500 gm (27.50%). Patients with inadequate antenatal care, less than three visits had 86% stillbirths.Conclusions: Proper antenatal care, prompt referral services and availability of emergency obstetric care will provide a pivotal role for reduction of stillbirths.
