Fibers composed of different types of collagen cannot be differentiated by conventional electron microscopic stains. We are developing staining procedures aimed at identifying collagen fibers of different types.Pt(Gly-L-Met)Cl binds specifically to sulfur-containing amino acids. Different collagens have methionine (met) residues at somewhat different positions. A good correspondence has been reported between known met positions and Pt(GLM) bands in rat Type I SLS (collagen aggregates in which molecules lie adjacent to each other in exact register). We have confirmed this relationship in Type III collagen SLS (Fig. 1).

Photocatalytic Oxidative-Extraction Desulfurization (Photo-cat-EODS) of thiophene, the main sulfur-containing compound of catalytic cracking (FCC) gasoline, has been investigated in heterogeneous photocatalysis process using WO3/ZnO composite as photocatalyst and air was used as the oxidant. Extraction process was also employ followed by the photocatalytic oxidative process to remove the oxidative products using acetonitrile as the extractant. Furthermore, orthogonal experiments method was used to optimize the processing parameters.

Background. Change of the content of sulfur-containing amino acids and their metabolites is one of the pathochemical mechanisms of alcohol intoxication. Purpose of the study. To study the effect of chronic and intermittent alcohol intoxication on the content of sulfurcontaining amino acids and related compounds in the rat blood plasma. Material and methods. Thirty white outbred rats weighing 180-220 g. The content of free amino acids and biogenic amines was determined by HPLC. Results. A 14-day chronic alcohol intoxication was accompanied by a significant decrease in the level of methionine and an increase in the level of homocysteine in the blood plasma. The concentration of glutathione increased by 5%. In the intermittent alcohol intoxication IAI-4 group, the homocysteine content also increased, as did the level of homoserine and cystathionine in the IAI-1 group. Conclusions. Сhronic and intermittent alcohol intoxications cause similar violations of the level of sulfur-containing amino acids and their metabolites in the rat blood plasma.

Sulfur-containing moieties, especially thioethers (sulfides), play pivotal roles in the functionalities of many natural products, pharmaceutical compounds, and organic materials. In this review, we summarize the recent synthetic protocols of thioethers using thiolating reagents, including sulfonyl chlorides, sodium sulfinates, and sulfonyl hydrazides, as the ideal starting materials. Representative mechanisms for different types of reaction are also discussed.1 Introduction2 Synthesis of Thioethers from Sulfonyl Chlorides3 Synthesis of Thioethers from Sodium Sulfinates4 Synthesis of Thioethers from Sulfonyl Hydrazides5 Conclusion

AbstractPlastics produced from the sulfur-based monomer are excellent materials with many optical applications such as ophthalmic lenses, fiber optics and non- linear optics. High refractive index plastic materials are able to reduce the curvature, edge and center thickness of lenses. Sulfur containing plastics such as sulfide, polysulfide, and sulfur containing vinyl compound, thioacrylate, polythiol and isocyanate/isothiocyanate based monomers have demonstrated high refractive index, high Abbe number, good impact strength, excellent machinability, good tintability and good transmittance. In the present article, various sulfur containing plastics with different types of monomers for ophthalmic lens applications are reviewed.

Allium stracheyi (Alliaceae), is the high-altitude growing plant, commonly known as Jamboo, and Dhungar in Uttarakhand, India. It is a good source of income for the tribal communities and cultivars of Uttarakhand with medicinally and economically importance. A. stracheyi has higher amount of fibre and protein contents with lower fat and carbohydrates. It is used in various ailments. Considering phytoconstituents studies revealed different types of compounds like hydrocarbons, terpenes, terpenoids and sulfur-containing components as volatile constituents. The present study aimed to provide a general review of the available literature of A. stracheyi on phytochemistry, biological activities and pharmacological uses with special reference to traditional and economic importance.

Abstract In order to obtain sulfur-containing tetraazafulvalenes the derivatives 1 - 3 were cross-coupled with different types of acetylenes via palladium-catalyzed reactions. Starting from the tetrabromoaryl derivative 3a, four bromine atoms could be replaced by 2-ethynylthiophene. Under analogous conditions, the methylsulfanyl esters 7 -11 could be obtained by employing 4-ethynylbenzoic acid 4-(methylsulfanyl)butylester 6. Lipoic acid could be integrated into tetraazafulvalenes successfully in a two step reaction. First, the Sonogashira coupling method yielded the compound 12 possessing two (4-anilino)ethynyl residues which were then condensed with lipoic acid to give derivative 13. Whereas the NMR data suggest the predominance of prototropic form A, UV/vis spectra of the deeply colored tetraazafulvalenes are in favor with structure B rather than with structure A. DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level showed that tautomeric form B is about 60 kJ/mol more stable than A. In addition, time-dependent density functional theory calculations support the substructure of two crossed diazaheptamethinemerocyanines.
