AbstractIn this study, the dynamic-mechanical properties and thermal behavior of the nanocomposites of a photocurable epoxy-acrylate resin and CuO nanohybrid were determined. In order to improve the dispersion of CuO nanoparticles and prevention of nanoparticle migration to the surface coating, the surface of commercial nanoparticles was modified by triethoxymethylsilane (TEMS) and vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) as silane-coupling agents. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) tests were then performed on CuO-filled epoxy-acrylate resins to identify the loading effect on the properties of material. The thermal stability of nanocomposites was affected slightly after incorporation of CuO nanoparticles. DMA studies revealed that filling the CuO nanoparticles into epoxy-acrylate resin can produce a significant enhancement in storage modulus, as well as a shift in the glass transition temperature. The films reinforced with the modified CuO exhibit the most significant enhancements in properties.

Nano-crystalline barium hexaferrite powders have been prepared by mechanical alloying of nFe2O3+Ba(CH3COO)2 with Fe/Ba molar ratios of 10-12 and subsequent heat treatment. Thermal behavior, phase composition, morphology and magnetic properties of samples were studied using DTA/TGA, XRD, SEM and VSM, respectively. Nano-crystalline Ba-hexaferrite with a mean crystallite size of 46 nm and magnetic properties as high as Ms = 73.9 A.m2/kg and Hci = 334.2 kA/m was formed for mixture of 5.5Fe2O3+Ba(CH3COO)2 which was milled for 48 h and then annealed at 1100 °C.

UV-curable bi-component coating of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)/polyurethane –acrylate (PUA) modified with the methylacryloylpropyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (MAP-POSS) were prepared. The dynamic mechanical properties and thermal behavior of nano-hybrid coating (GMA/PUA/MAP-POSS) were characterized with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). The results indicate the three components have very good compatibility and can co-cure in UV-radialization by a free radical polymerization. The addition of MAP-POSS enhanced the thermal properties, the mechanical loss peak temperature Tp is 85.5°C when the amount of MAP-POSS is 10wt%, which is increased by 12.6 °C than the pure system. When the content of MAP-POSS is 20wt%, thermal decomposition temperature in the initial stages was increased by 7 °C than that of the pure GMA/ PUA.
