Solid State Ln-L compounds, where Ln stands for light trivalent lanthanides (La - Gd) and L is pyruvate, have been synthesized. Thermogravimetry and derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-Ray powder diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and complexometry were used to characterize and to study the thermal behaviour of these compounds. The results led to information about the composition, dehydration, ligand denticity, thermal behaviour and thermal decomposition of the isolated compounds.

Solid-state Ln -3-MeO-Bz compounds, where Ln stands for lighter trivalent lanthanides (La Sm) and 3-methoxybenzoate, have been synthesized. Thermogravimetry (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy, and complexometry were used to characterize and to study the thermal behaviour of these compounds. The results led to information concerning the composition, dehydration, polymorphic transformation, thermal behaviour and thermal decomposition of the synthesized compounds.

In the present study, amorphous form of cefuroxime axetil was prepared and characterized by various methods. The result showed that the amorphous form of cefuroxime axetil with hydrophilic carriers was successfully obtained by freeze drying. The amorphous form showed a substantially higher dissolution rate and saturation solubility than cefuroxime axetil and physical mixture. The molecular behaviour of the drug in all samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The dissolution and saturation solubility studies of the samples were performed. The X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry provided useful information to support the amorphousness of the samples.

AbstractThe inclusion complex β-cyclodextrin:nifedipin was prepared in solid state by coprecipitation with 1:1 mol ratio. The structure of the obtained complex and nifedipin was characterized by use of X-ray diffraction (XR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) methods. The photodegradation of nifedipin and the β-cyclodextrin:nifedipin inclusion complex in solid state was monitored under natural daylight by infrared spectroscopy, whereby the free nifedipin degraded four to five times faster than the complexed nifedipin. The photodegradation products of both free and complexed nifedipin, formed during irradiation at 350 nm (with corresponding energy flux of 18 W m−2) were monitored by liquid chromatography during various time intervals. The speed of formation of nitroso- and nitro-phenyl derivatives by nifedipin irradiation was significantly higher than those of complexed nifedipin irradiation, which indicates its increased photostability in the inclusion complex. The effect on this property is significant because it contributes both to the improvement of the therapeutic effect of nifedipin and to the safer application thereof.

The 2-methoxycinnamylidenepyruvic acid (2-MeO-HCP) was synthesized and characterized for nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H and 13C NMR), mass spectrometry (MS), Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The application of DSC for purity determination is well documented in literature and is used in the analysis of pure organic compounds. The molecular geometry and vibrational frequencies of 2-MeO-HCP have been calculated.
