Based on the shortcomings of traditional probabilistic assessment methods, an improved probabilistic safety assessment method was proposed, which used Latin hypercube sampling, considered the change process about fatigue crack propagation, as well as the effect of random variables on the failure assessment curve. The paper also analyzed the specific example with this method. The results showed that this method was simpler and more effective, which had some value of applications in engineering.

In order to accurately assess the robustness of the complex bridge structure, a method of robustness assessment that takes structure degradation and accidental loads into consideration is proposed. Firstly, the degradation rates of member section properties and the increasing rate of live load are set as variables. The parametrical model of structure is established by the finite element software of ANSYS. Secondly, the structure robustness is based upon analysis from the robustness index, the reserve strength factor and the residual strength factor. The effects of three degradation rates of section properties, the established increasing rate of live loads and accidental loads on the robustness of bridges are considered. Finally, this method is used to analyze the time-variant robustness of Guotai Bridge located on the Haihe River of Tianjin. The results indicate that different degradation rates of member section properties have different effect on the robustness of Guotai Bridge, the effect of accidental loads has a close relationship with its acting position.

Due to the fact that the complexity of loads and uncertainties of random variables affect the reliability of defective casings, with consideration to the disadvantages of the deterministic approach, in this paper a probabilistic assessment method is employed based on previously established safety evaluation criteria for casings with corrosion defects in thermal recovery wells. In addition, Monte Carlo simulation is proposed to analyze the casing reliability under different remaining strengths. Sensitivity analysis is then performed to rank the influence of various variables for casing failure, and finally the influence law of the main parameters on the maximum Von Mises stress of defective casing is summarized.
