Background: With increase in prevalence of stroke and life expectancy the quality of life of stroke survivors assumes importance. Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular accidents the survivors continue to experience low Quality of life (QoL) especially in developing countries. The objective of this study was to assess the quality of life among stroke survivors and the prevalence of depression among them.  Methods: Cross-sectional population based study was conducted in a rural area of North Kerala. Stoke survivors were interviewed at home to assess the quality of life and depression status. QOL was assessed using the Medical Outcomes 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), functional status using the modified barthel index (MBI), and mood using the Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI).Results: A total of 40 patients (65.5% men, mean age 70.58±10.7 years) were interviewed.  The mean MBI was 55.25±2.79, and the prevalence of unrecognized depression was 90%. 95 percent of patients needed varying degrees of care for their activities of daily living. The SF-36 scores of the patients were considerably lower than that to that of the general population especially in the areas of role limitation and physical functioning. Depression was more among older subjects and Depressed patients had lower MBI scoresConclusions: A significant proportion of stroke survivors continue to face limitations in their physical activities. In addition, majority have unrecognised depression that affects their QOL adversely.

Objective : To investigate if the relationship between physical activity level (PAL) and quality of life (QOL) is affected by living environment (rural or urban). Method : A quantitative, observational and cross-sectional study was performed. Of the 40 participants of both genders, 20 were residents of urban areas and 20 were residents of rural areas in the town of Pimenta Bueno (RO), Brazil. The WHOQOL BREF and IPAQ Long Version questionnaires were used to assess QOL and PAL, respectively. Mann Whitney and Fisher's Exact were used to statistically compare groups for QOL and PAL scores. The correlation between the two was tested by the Spearman test. A significance level of p<0.05 was used. Results : No differences between the rural and urban areas for QOL or PAL were found. In the rural group a positive and significant correlation was found between PAL and the physical, psychological and complete QOL domains. In terms of PAL, elderly persons from the rural area who were regularly active had higher total QOL and physical domain scores than insufficiently active elderly individuals from the rural area. When place of residence was compared, insufficiently active elderly in the urban area had higher scores on the social component of QOL than insufficiently active elderly from the rural group. Among regularly active seniors, those living in the rural area had higher physical QOL scores. Conclusion : According to the results, level of physical activity exerts a differential influence on the QOL of elderly people from rural and urban areas.

Seeking for the quality of life, attraction of investors, maintenance of existent residents, attraction of new residents or visitors, a great responsibility falls on public organizations in the certain territory, which have interest in the boosting of the territorial attraction and solve the issues of social and economic growth and this is specifically significant in rural areas. The problem of the scientific article – how to increase/boost local social and economic attractiveness in a rural area, following the toolsments, applied in marketing. The purpose of this article – to create a theoretical model for the social and economic rural areas development. The article provides conceptual understanding substantiate by critical theoretical review. The main result of this article is formatted the model of social and economic growth of rural areas.
